I just tell people not to park in front of the driveway. All you have to do is open your mouth.

Wouldnt you think they have any common sense? To urinate in the yard, they certanly have no decency . Should we tell them not to do that also?

true, but I've been fortunate enough for that not to happen, as far as I know anyway.

Can't believe people want to take away the ONLY thing that really happens in this small town. We have nothing here in Barbourville. No movies,bowling,skating,etc... We have to drive to another county just to have a little fun. Why try to take away something a lot of people and kids look forward to every year?

What if all of our rednecks quit spending any money in Barbourville at all and go somewhere else? If you don't like the Daniel Boone Festival and live in town leave that week and go somewhere else. You won't be missed at all you go and be the redneck you are somewhere else OK?
i always thought it was so funny that some folks who live in barbourville actually think that they are somehow seperate from the rest of the county and think that they aren't rednecks themselves. newsflash..if you live anywhere in southeast ky you are a redneck. just embrace it and celebrate it.

I would sign. When people squander money in these hard economic times then they and their children go hungry by the last of the month, it is not right. And the costs of tickets and food is high at the festival. Many children feel left out when their families are not able to afford the rides, games and foods that many of their friends are participating in and enjoying.

It's not worth it. So question is, if a petition was floated to put a stop to this yearly gathering of meth heads and welfare warriors, would you sign it? A lot of town people I have spoken with say they would.
You just described Wal Mart on the 1st of every month... So should we also take out wal mart since every 1st of the month the drunks, dope heads, and meth heads gather? Also so you know not everyone who lives here are on drugs. I work for my family and we enjoy the DBF every year.

Yes, walmart can go too.I would actually like that better than losing the DBF.

Here is what those of us in town get out of the DBF:
1. Trash thrown in our yards.
2. Driveways blocked.
3. Crooks looking over our property then stealing it.
4. Trying to fight crowds and traffic to get home, after work. Some I know most of you know nothing about.

These are just a few of the things that makes this yearly waste of time and money so enjoyable for us.

Go somewhere else to spend your food stamps I dont care.
I don't get food stamps but if you have any you don't spend you can send them to me. I haven't never puked or pissed in anyones yard either. You big shot town people make me sick! You all sure paid enough for the statue of Daniel Boone in front of the court house. Don't say that was the rednecks up hollows that did that.

The young people need something to look forward to in this dump of a county as well as the older ones. That gives the court house plenty to do the next week. They seem to love the drama of it all. Why don't you stop the Nibroc and Chicken Festival TOO?

By the way which hollow did you come from and just move to town? Living in town don't make you any better than any of the rest of us.

Well I look at it as its something that the kids look FOWARD to every year. Considering there is nothing in this town for them to do. It's more for the kids than anything. And all the dope heads would be broke regardless if there was a DBF of not. For all that don't like it an want to do away with it, please just stay home an stop complaining about it that's your solution!!!
When our Mayor was voted in he stated he was going to bring more things to this town for our kids, but nothing has been done. No wonder we have so many kids getting in trouble, getting hooked on drugs an meth. If they had more activities for the kids it would probly cut down on troubled teens. I say if you want to do something start a petition to put in a skating rink, theater, bowling alley. Now that would be something worth your time!

A drug dealer looks at that week of the DBF the same way Wal-mart looks at Black Friday, busiest shopping time of the year.

the county or the tourism commitee paid for the silly looking midget statue so yes you holler jumpers did pay for it...maybe if they need something to look forward to so much it should be turning 18 and leaving, give up a life of poverty for a place in society as a contributing member and not a parasite, something else you obviously dont understand

living up a "holler" has nothing to do with weather or not you are a contributing member of society. no more than living in the huge metro of "barvul" does. really you truly sound ignorant.

People keep complaining about these kids on foodstamps starving at the end of the month in October because of the DBF. Do you really think they eat any better the rest of the year? Dope dealers are in business ALL year long. DBF gives the kids something to do for one week a year. Yes they could do some restructuring like bracelets instead of tickets but how much money does the county make off the DBF. KCEOC has a booth every year and they depend on the proceeds to fund some of their programs. Churches depend on them as well. The DBF is famous and brings tourists to Barbourville. It was a Jeopardy question for goodness sake. If you don't like the DBF rope off your driveway but let the kids look forward to something. There are dopeheads at every community event. Have you ever been to the Barbourville/Central basketball game? The drug epidemic in this county has nothing to do with the DBF. Go ahead take away our traditions, the county is going to hell in a handbasket anyways. Because people would rather sit back and complain than get off their butts and change things...
