I agree. We can't afford the increase. Maybe some of the high paid central office staff can, but not your regular Joe.

The majority of Knox Co people have not seen the Corbin Times this week and it was in black/white the KCBE is wanting taxes raised to the maximum allowed by the state. PLUS add a 5cent - nickel tax!!!!!!! When is this going to stop! Only two board members Watts and Hinkle voted NO! People you better wake up and attend public meeting on this. People in the county cannot pay taxes now. Tax bills are already being sold. Enough is enough, time to cut the FAT at Board. People, we can't afford this much of a tax increase on your property. All together they are asking for: 4 cents + 5 cents nickel tax. That will be added to our tax rate from last year 49 cents per $100 TO 58 cents per $100 property value. So a person having property tax at 49 cents like last year paid $490.00 in school school tax. Keep in mind all the other taxes you pay, library, health department, etc. Under new tax rate the board of education approved you will be paying $580.00 for that same $100,000 property. That's 90.00 more not including other areas getting their increase. They say the nickel tax can come back off after they get the money they need, I don't know any taxes that have ever dropped! Shame on the elected board members costing the poor, fixed income, hard working people of Knox County! When is the public meeting? We all need to stop this NICKEL tax!!!

Oh yes he can!! The damage done under Hewlett can't be fixed overnight!! Hitler AKA as Hewlett robbed this county with that giant salary plus all his other special crap while people really working got nothing but a hard time! Who knows what will need to be done to fix it? Waaaay too many taxes already!

1 liqour store on the square would generate enough revenue to fund the school system .. but we are to stupid to keep the money in our own town. Thanks to a few bigmouths religious fanatics the whole county pays.

Of all the crap this fab 5 has pulled, no one cares until they get in your pocket. Vote them out. Get involved. Speak your mind.

They act like being on the board is nothing but trouble when you talk to them on their taxpayer provided phones but they sure will bend over backward to keep their seats. All decisions go to the highest bidder on Knox County!

Remember two members voted against tax, Watts and Hinkle. Sad they are getting in our pocket books to the other 3 elected members

Check the records of the same board members when they aren't up for reelection. They stage the vote, so it will pass regardless. Notice, it passes every time. They are all in each others pockets and it is disgusting. Hinkle is unopposed, but letting Watts be the only no vote would have been obvious. Wake up folks.

Very true. Don't forget the May 13th edition of the Advocate. So many power trips for one school system, mostly board members. That story didn't stay in the spotlight long because of the Stinking Creek murder. Of course, the audit was wrong, KDE was wrong, the Advocate was wrong, and all the bad things are Hewlett's fault. Sounds believabled.

Interesting! Power trips? Never understood all that. They need to be taking education classes to become familiar with the world if education! No board member should be elected without a college education. Do we want these uneducated people making decisions for the betterment of our children. I sure don't

True. I am sick of people with money pumping the egos of holler rats and getting them involved with decisions that effect everyone in the county, especially the kids. Looks like teachers with college degrees would get sick of it too.

I am a teacher in Knox County. For all you whiners complaining about a nickel tax I would like you all to consider some facts. As of last year we still had the arrogant Mr. Hulett as superindent, two asst superintendents that belittled everyone in the entire system. This last school year was great with them gone!! This new board with an exception of one,, has changed the attitudes of the school system, treats everyone with respect. I feel like I want to go and teach our kids more than ever. We also got a 1% much deserved raise last year with another coming. With federal and state monies being cut, where do you think they can or will look for additional money? I as a ten year teacher of Knox county beg you to support increase for tax, it is for all of our children.
