Until they get a coach who will stop playing favorites (my daddy is the sheriff, etc.), they will never win. They need a coach who will put the best players on the team and the court, not according to who their parents are or how well off they are. This has been going on since I was there in the late 60's, early 70's.
I agree with you....but this hasn't happened in 40 + years.

Well looks like my sources were correct about this one. Voight better win and win next season or he will be very expendable. Guess Tony Patterson got cold feet and did not want the pressure. It is a little different coaching basketball in New Mexico as compared to Kentucky. No clue as to why the admin would go this route, seems they are wanting to see this ship sink. Good luck Panthers.

I have read every post and it's all the same. 1st it they will hire local somebody's cousin, and that's wrong. If correct, they hire out of state and guess what that's wrong too. Wendy messer was appointed coach, have you read the paper? Lol... Seem to me KCs biggest problem are the people posting to this site! Really people if you spent your time supporting your school maybe they would have some success. It seems from reading that most of you know exactly what it would take to be successful so, how exactly would you run the team and who would you hire? Better yet go face to face and say what it is you want. It seems it's a no win with you people!!

I cannot believe these people running our school system and sports program would go all the way to New Mexico to hire a coach. Seems we don't have no one in this part of the U.S.A.That could coach a high school Basketball team. Maybe it's one of those Immigrants from Honduras heck we don't know but it seems we are going to find out. Way to go Kelly and Melton, and Canady at the end of the day it's going to bite you in the ass. Boy we have some good leaders what a joke. LOL.

Seems like the gentlemen researched and hired someone who they think is going to do a good job. They didn't hire someone's uncles brothers cousin . The gentleman they hired has won other places . He has coached at the HS level . It is refreshing that a person would want to come to our community to coach . Hiring the best vs. the local is good for our system. Probably are some good coaches from around here too. Why not support vs tear down ?

Finally someone with some sense. We have hired from within so long that we can't get no lower. If we would start hiring the best available person when it comes to teaching and principle jobs, our schools would see significant improvement..

You may be the dumbest person in Knox Co. Your way of thinking is what has brought us one of the worst school system in the state. You would rather hire the local guy that has never coached a High School game in his life, than hire a guy that has won a State Championship.

From what I have been able to find out is that the new KC Head Coach has Kentucky ties and connections. His deceased grandfather was a very successful head college and high school coach. He won a National Championship at Lindsey Wilson College back when LWC was a junior college. I heard that his grandfather was in the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame. His grandfather also coached at Morehead State as well. His dad just recently accepted the head job at Pulaski County High School. His father back in the early 90's was head coach at Pineville and Whitley County HS. He also has been a winning college head coach as well as an associate head coach at NCAA D1. The new coach at KC won the State Championship last year in NM. The year before lost in State Championship. This past season was named NM HS Coach of the Year Class AA. Seems to me the Administrators have hired a proven winner at the high school level and a coach that has proven he can lead his team to the top. I say this community should get behind the new coach and this team and just maybe we will be watching and supporting the KC Panthers in March at the Sweet 16.

100% agree! Anybody that doesn't believe this, get on the Internet and look it up! He is a proven winner! So what if he isn't from here...Coach Cal isn't from Kentucky either!

If they administration had hired someone local and they lost, people would say, "should have hired someone from away from here!" Now that they have hired someone from away from here, people are saying,"should have hired someone local!" I commend Canady for doing what he did!

There is no winning with the public in Knox County! Whine, complain, bitch and moan...why don't you try supporting our kids and programs just once?
Seriously

Well I am very disappointed in the hiring of the new basketball coach. I thought surely John Barger would be hired before anyone else..... Barger had the support of our athletic director ( I heard he was offered the job as soon as Bryan Evans resigned). It was my understanding he was going to take over as the head football coach also. I figured with John being inducted into the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame tonight he was the top choice....

I am very happy to hear Knox County finally has someone who is actually interested in our children and our athletics program. I did not have or never have had children involved in sports at the high school level. Canady has the kahunas to pick whom he feels is best for the job to lead the athletes regardless of whom he is told to hire. He researched each of the applicants and how he thought they would fit with our program. I am sure a lot of people feel that a local hire would be a better fit......I witnessed my self one of the applicants mother using racial slurs at children at an elementary game....Let's all get behind our teams and provide support. Athletics could be what keeps a child from doing drugs, going home to an empty house after school, provides a meal, and/or gives a child a structured environment. So hats off to our DA/AD. He definitely cares about Knox County sports....and not the $$$ he can steal from our teams. You will see him not only at KC Panthers games but also elementary games. This is not something I have seen from previous AD's.
Great
