Missing Man- Holmes

To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter in hopes to get some much needed attention to a very devastating situation. My family and I are in desperate need of some help and are not sure where we are supposed to turn. On July 5, 2012 my cousin, Clarence Wayne Holmes disappeared while boating on Lake Laurel in London, Kentucky. A storm was coming and Clarence was helping other people to secure their boats and also helped a friend fix their houseboat before heading to the marina to secure his boats. The last people to see him reported that Clarence stated that he was going back to the marina, but he never made it. His boat was found on a small sandy island later in the evening but Clarence has not been found. Laurel County says that they are doing everything possible to recover his body but have not been successful. The lead investigator of the Laurel Lake search is Larry Vanhook. While we are very appreciative of everything that Laurel County and Larry Vanhook have done so far we feel like something is missing. We feel like some days we are avoided. We just want to know the game plan each day, and if Laurel County has reached the limits of their capabilities-ask for help. If there is something you cannot tell us that is ok just say I cant tell you that but please do not avoid us. I know that multiple counties have been on the scene at Laurel Lake. I know that Estill, Madison, and Pulaski Counties have assisted in the effort. Multiple more have offered services and been turned away. I was told by a member of the Warren County Rescue Team that Laurel County never responded to messages left offering aid in the investigation. Which is absolutely ridiculous, of course they are needed. The teams that are being turned away, or not being responded to, could be the teams that find, and bring Clarence home. Each county has to get permission to come, or be invited by the lead investigator of the case. Clarences Aunt Traca Wooten was at the lake yesterday and stated that there were dogs there but they didn't stay long, and they were there only a couple of hours if that. She stated that the marina was deserted, and she looked for Larry VanHook but was unable to find him. The family feels like this is being treated routine, like it is just a job; but a man, a human being, is missing in a lake! This case is anything but routine to Clarences friends and family.
My familys biggest fear is that we will not get him back at all. Clarences mom, dad and brother are devastated beyond words. Arnold Holmes, Clarences dad has been at the lake, day in and day out since the minute he heard that Clarence was missing. He is searching desperately for his son. Arnold and Clarences brother Charles search with their own camera that will reach 500ft but only has front view, and are scared that they will be the ones to find him. Arnold says that he will not leave the lake without Clarence.
I am writing you because I know there is someone out there that can help us bring Clarence home. We just need to find them. I know that state funds are needed. We are scared to death that those funds will be depleted and then what? We just dont know and we are so desperate for some answers. We have contacted Jack Conways office, the Attorney General and did not get any response because it is not their jurisdiction. So whose jurisdiction is it that can bring us answers?
I feel like it is my job to make sure as many people know about this story as possible. I have also started a group on Facebook called Come Home Clarence. It is an open group that anyone can join. The site has served several purposes. Its main purpose was to keep us all organized; as there are several of family members, and friends dedicated in bringing Clarence home!

We can post who we have contacted to the site. It has stories, photos, information about the lake, and updates about what has occurred in the search to date. We also have set up a web link to a paypal account set up in Clarences name to aid in the search. This money will go to gas boats and feed the volunteers and searchers. That site is www.eastkyusssa.com . We are not going to go away and we will fight to the end to bring Clarence home. Lake Laurel has claimed seven other victims that have never been recovered and we refuse to let Clarence be the eight. Our family will not rest until he is brought home!!
I am also giving a list of important numbers to call in case anyone can do anything to help our family find Clarence and bring him home. If you are anyone you think might be able to help us please call me.
Now what is so bad about that letter. Yes I did leave out the family's contact info and all the other phone numbers but that is because topix goes all crazy when you put phone numbers on here. Wouldn't you want you loved one's body found? Or would you rather it stay at the bottom of a lake? I think its creepy as all get out to leave a body at the bottom of a lake not only for the family but for those of us who live by the lake and us it every summer. WTF are we swimming in and with?
Uhh yeah we lost Uncle Jimmy Bob back in the summer of 89 but its ok we go swimming with him every summer I know he's still down there swimming right along with me, he's looking up from the bottom of the lake at me. Only in Kentucky.

I am so sorry to say but this will be one of your worst nightmares until he is found & I truly am so sorry. I can tell you all of the search & rescue teams you mentioned are doing everything they can. I know this personally as well as the rest of my family & friends. We had some of the same people looking for my dad, they were wonderful & did everything they could. Believe me they want to find your loved one, Clarence Wayne Holmes, as much as you. It was about a month later, my dad was found, they searched for about 2 wks I think & we knew where my dad went down, the search had to be called off at that time. It is a big lake with lost of tree stumps so to speak, because it is man made. This is very dangerous for any diver & most of these guys if not all looking for you cousin are certified Padi Divers. My dad was found about a month after he went down & about a mile away from the original spot.
The seasons have a lot to do with searches in water, it was in the fall and that made it very difficult, I don't know about this time of the year. The only thing I can recommend, is call WYMT, tell your story, be as calm as possible & ask for Padi Divers help, there will be a lot of boaters on the water this time of the year. You may also get volunteers, but they will need to be Padi Certified, unless they go out on their own & I do not recommend anyone without certification because it is very dangerous. The waster is not clear & the trees, you don't want something to happen to someone trying to help you & your family.
I am so sorry to say, but it doesn't look good & I do know what it feels like. My prayers go out to you & your family.

You should go on their website and post this. I don't know the family, but I've joined the page. They are not local residents in this area, and probably don't get comments from Barbourville Topix. I'd say any info you could give them would be helpful. :-)
