President Obama recently signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. This act provides for the one-time payment of $250 to individuals who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security benefits.
We expect everyone who is entitled to a payment to receive it by late May 2009. No action is required on your part.

We are currently working on the details regarding how we will issue nearly 55 million one-time payments to our beneficiaries.

When more information becomes available, we will promptly post it here. Please bookmark this site and check back regularly. Thank you.

Why hell no, all the working man gets is a hard time. But let's send the government even further in debt to help those that don't hold a job or pay taxes survive. God Bless America!

Well my husband gets social security, and he worked for 4O years and paid dearly for it. So how much are you working man paying in. You make a broad statement assuming anyone on social security doesn't deserve it. How many thousands of dollars have you paid in, working man? O yes, and there was never a year that we didn't pay taxes. We probably paid more in a year in taxes than you even made, in one year. Yes, that was a broad statement, and a smart remark, because of your broad statement, trying imply if you get social security "a person must be a dead beat", when "tain't so, working man"

The working people got a rebate, from the last stimulus, and they got a lot more then the retired and disabled will be getting. Did you think how much we would be in debt when you got your rebate, I didn't think so. You know is right, not everyone is dead beats, if you get social security you or someone worked or they wouldn't get social security.

Do you not know the difference between SSI for lazy asses and SSA for those that worked and paid it in? And if you are paid in more taxes than what you assume I would make in one year, then what the hell are you a lawyer or doctor? And if so, why is some one of your stature on Topix? Yes if you've worked and paid money in, you deserve it, but if you're just someone's whose made a way of life by mooching off the government because the world has done you world, then to hell with ya. Peace =)

If you are able to work today, then you are a deadbeat, and I got my stimulas, 9 bucks a week and boy Im a going shopping, besides the food stampls got a raise about 88 bucks a month and so did welfare and ssi and social sec. the only one not is working to pay it in and i agree if you worked and are now disabled than that fine, but the other, thank god they are going to require random drug testing for those signed up, word is they will set up the the food stamp office and the welfare office and the ssi office and require drug testing before you are signed up ,, guess we will save bunches of money when lots dont pass that test and no clean pee will save you .. god bless america

If you will look at the topix title it is about Social Security.

You are right to your opinion. If I was defensive it is because of the degrading way that you wrote about anyone that might receive the rebate, with the attitude that you were the only one that worked ever worked.

Is it possible for you to have an opinion without having to degrade the ones that your opinion is about. Does it make you feel better? superior? or more intelligent?

I was told about this site by a friend who at one time lived in that area. I found it fascinating, because I wanted to know if what I had heard before was true or not. I have found some interesting people on this site and yes there are some that are ignorant, and ignorant, meaning that they don't know something on a matter, from which they are speaking.

There are also people on here who have very low self esteem and speak from that place, and I see that and have no need to beraete them in that place.

Success in life to me, is if I can be where I am in life and identify with the other person who might not be there, who might only need a kind word, helping hand, not a put down.

You need to come out of that little world you are in. The world is much broader and there are people who have truly learned the value of another human being, even themselves, that they have no need to make themselves feel better by putting another person down. Were you able to catch that they LEARNED it, they weren't born with it. IS there enough space in that small mind of yours to catch that. Now was that better for you? I can do that too....but I choose not too. Even though I just did it for your benefit.

See your world can't function outside of mockery, or put down. If you think what I expressed was on a high horse, then your thinking will never get any higher than where you are. The sad part is, being ignorant of things is not a bad thing, but being unwilling to be taught or learn something outside of your small world is. No I have had my share of ignorance in my life time, and I don't envy your world. I have learned from my mistakes and make myself available to be taught, knowing that I don't know everything, and don't won't to live in ignorance to believe that I do. I don't have to set myself up better than anyone else to feel good about myself.
