Hello everybody,
I was wondering if anyone knows of any martial art schools in Barbourville?
I know there used to be the Konooburu Dojo, and I've heard there might be an IsshinRyu Karate school. Any help would be appreicated.

You can get on the website "Iron Sight Defense." They teach the Kentucky Concealed Weapon Carry Course in addition to abvanced shooting techniques. One of their Instructors is also a Brazilian Ju Jitsu Master... He may know of a local dojo for your style.

Also, someone has been putting up little posters for martial arts classes at the local stores - Creek Mart and Jack's downtown for example...

As for me, I am a master of two forms of modern martial arts:

Glock + Smith & Wesson......

Yea Goju Ryu means the hard soft way. It is speed and strength, but can appear to be soft on strikes. But I can't see anything soft about it. Learned nunchucks in the Philippines then. Google the website, it has all the basics.

Thanks for the info. I'd rather train under an instructor. There are things you just can't learn from a book or a video.
Goju Ryu is very cool from what I've seen of it.

I heard there may have been an Isshinryu Karate place in Barbourville a while back. I wish someone could fill me in on what happened to them, assuming that there even was an Isshinryu school.

Thanks for posting that. I guess it helps confirm that someone is or was teaching Isshinryu Karate.
Does anybody know of anyone teaching it now?

There is an isshinryu school in Middlesboro. Boone Trail Isshinryu Karate, I believe it's called. Run by Mike Taylor. I met him at a tournament in Middlesboro--he's a cool guy.

There is also Frankfort Isshinryu Karate in Frankfort, and Kentuckiana Isshinryu Karate just across the river from Louisville.

Jonathan--not really from Cincinnati (don't know why it says that).

The konooburu dojo is in the process of relocating however there should at least be a small group of students in the area still training. I would try the website, www.konooburudojo.com if your interested in ninjutsu and brazilian jiujitsu. I've been training with this group for eight+ years now, and the quality of training doesnt get much better as far as realism and street effectiveness goes.
