Just curious.... How much do you give your church a week in the offering? I have heard that one should give about 10% of their income but that would be about $200 per month for me and I can't afford that but I don't want to be a cheap skate either. I just want to know about what others feel comfortable giving weekly.

10% is a tithe that I believe is mentioned in the Bible, but don't quote me on that. An offering is something above and beyond tithing. An offering is a special gift to God for a request or thanks for answered request or prayer. You say you can't afford to tithe 10%, can you afford no too? Not preaching just something I heard.Good luck.

Only Levite priests could collect tithes, and there are no Levite priests today.

Need more?

Yes actually I do.. I don't understand that. Tithes are collected monthly from churches, and it's usually 10% or whatever you can afford. The weekly offerings are totally different from tithes.. and I'm not understanding what Levite priests have anything to do with it...

If you are a member of a church you are suppose to give Tithes, That is what keeps the church running and lets them pay bills have bible school buy Sunday school supplies for kids and a whole lot more.
people who visit the church are suppose to give offerings to help the church out.It takes a lot more than you would think to keep a church going. And they also help people that need it.

The bible authors didn't consider that in 2012 the government would be taking over 50% of the working man's income.

Don't forget about the working woman. They'll be all over you if you leave them out.

This is true. In those days, the Governments were the churches anyway.

This is for those who regularly attend a church that follows the teaching of a 10% tithe.

Go up to your preachers I encourage you to do so and ask them, In the book of Genesis, how did Jacob tithe?

What they will more than likely reply with doesn't match with what is actually taught within scripture. A 10% tithe is not to be given if it's something you don't already possess.

In other words, God doesn't expect you to tithe UNLESS he blesses you first! Read...

Genesis 28:20-22

"20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying,“If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear 21 so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord will be my God 22 and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.”

How can one tithe to the Lord you ask, instead of some church? Read...

Deuteronomy 12:6-7

6 there bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, what you have vowed to give and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks. 7 There, in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the Lord your God has blessed you.

Deuteronomy 14:29

29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

Leviticus 27:30-33

30 “A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord. 31 Whoever would redeem any of their tithe must add a fifth of the value to it. 32 Every tithe of the herd and flock—every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod—will be holy to the Lord. 33 No one may pick out the good from the bad or make any substitution. If anyone does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute become holy and cannot be redeemed.’”

Now, do any of you know how that changed under Jesus and the New Covenant?

Yes 10% is mentioned in the Bible ,but what is really expected is giving with a free heart. Not giving it and then grumbling over it.It means giving it and having faith the Lord will see you thru.A person can give their last dime with a free heart and its better than a person who gives millions and then complains or brags about it.Even when you think the week is longer than the cash, giving freely, you are blessed and I know for a fact you will make it thru the week just fine.

God Said to Bring your Tithes into the Store House, which means the Church! He said you were only to give 10%, God requires no more than that from from you. Malachi 3: 10-11 Says God will stop The Devour from your Life.
For all of you who said God needs us to give so we can buy the Gold for the streets of Heaven ! I Pray God Forgives you for you Haughty Words... God Owns Heaven & Earth...He doesn't need your Tithes to buy Gold for the streets of Heaven, God Own Heaven & Earth! Why whould he need our Few Dollars to buy Gold for the streets of Heaven? God only ask us to giveback to him, so he could BLESS US FOR BEING obiendant to Him! God is a Loving God & a Caring God. He never asks more from us than we can Give. Giving is our Faith in Him... People don't believe a Lie & let your self fall short of a Blessing From God! Don't Believe these Lies . God already owns everything, why would he need us to help him! He doesn't , God only wants to know how much we Love him & Believe in Him, also his son Jesus!!! You have a Choice ! Choose God & Live Or Be Condemned to a Hell that awaits all who Believes not in Gods Word...Please choose Jesus... God Bless...
