We are not supposed to have blind faith, but faith that is backed by reason and evidence.

1 Peter 3:15
King James Version (KJV)
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

God gives you the reason. When he speaks to your heart, that is all the evidence you need.

Well for those that have had close emotional encounters with God that that's great, that's great evidence for them. But sadly, most other people including myself, haven't had such experiences.

When I became a believer, I didn't hear a voice or sense a overwhelmingly good feeling. No, I trust in His promise. Because of this lack of direct communication with God in the past I would get down and sometimes question God's existence, but since learning about all the vast archaeological, philosophical, as well as scientific evidences for God's existence this has increased my faith and has kept me from being down when times are bad or when I'm tempted emotionally to doubt God's existence or His promises.

In addition, because I and many other believers face constant objections and ridicule from atheists, agnostics and other non believers, we need to be equipped with these evidences and arguments that can hopefully peal back their intellectual objections so they can more likely respond to the gospel.

And even when you do that, many of them have emotional or volitional reasons in which then some can be helped while others can't, it depends on the person.

But regardless, those two main reasons, to help open nonbelievers up to the gospel and to encourage fellow believers is why many believers use arguments and evidences (aka apologetics) to back up their faith. The apostles did it back during the times of the early church, again to quote from 1 Peter:

1 Peter 3:15
King James Version (KJV)
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

And in closing, this article goes into more detail as far as what I'm saying. I hope you will find it helpful.
