Does anyone out there know why the cost of middle / high school cheerleading is so much ? I'm thinking we paid around $1500.00 last year , but now tey are saying its going to be $2500.00. Am I the only one that thinks this is just totally ridiculous ?

But that controls the selection without having to rely on just try outs. Not only does the uniforms and camps cost, but they gotta make sure that the kid is from a family they can also get them to gymnastics every week. Poor kids and-or kids that aint got a parent to run them aiin't got a chance.

My daughter probably won't be able to cheer if that's the case. Honestly why would it cost that much is the cheer sponsers pocketing all of that money?

Why is it that the cheerleaders have to pay so much but the ball players don't?

Cheerleading has become too high class. They're gonna charge as much as they can get away with. Besides its one of the most dangerous sports and has a high injury rate. Keep your daughters safe and refrain from letting them become cheerleaders. Besides, aren't you the ones left with their medical bills and not the schools?

This is at Barbourville. A friend told me they had talked with someone at the school and was told that they were working on getting the price down to somewhere around $1800.00, but they were not sure and before they could say anything it had to go in front of the superintendent 1st. Why does it need to go in front of him unless they are making money from it ?, and if so how many hair bow's, shoe's,uniforms, and pom poms can you buy for $1800.00 ?

if your child gets hurt in a school related accident then the school picks up the tab. I can clearly see you don't have kids in sports

my daughter cheers. They send out papers before tryout practice begins. They have the cost itemized. Last year my daughter recieved a coat 2 sets of Pom poms (fb/Bb), 3 uniforms warm ups, 2 bows, cheer bag, went to camp was fed and housed. Now all this was good quality gear. Monogrammed. So for 1800. I'd say its as worth every penny to a girl who wants to cheer.

No. My daughter is only one. I'm just looking out for her best interest. I don't want her paralyzed for life due to an accident I could've prevented. You know?

Don't the schools still carry the sports insurances? For the just in case your kids get hurt while playing a sport? Or are you saying they don't consider cheering a sport?

Good for your daughter, but I am raising my granddaughter who would like to cheer but I can't afford it, just like many others. I worked hard all my life, but my social security is just not enough for her to bop around at a game.

It is a shame the girls cheer for the sports who get everything paid for but the school won't spend A dime on the girls. It has always been this way. Yes it is sad some cant afford it but until the schools start to put money into cheerleading ( which should come from football and basketball gate money since they are supporting those sports) that's life, like everything else. We all can't afford everything we want. Cheerleaders are year round athletes because of football and basketball. That price isn't bad for two seasons. We want our cheerleaders to look their best and be able to compete with other schools. Yes it is expensive but it just is.

Of course there should be try outs! You can't have girls on cheerleading that have no ability to do so

That might sound like a lot of stuff but it still could be a lot less than that. That knocks out a lot of young girls tht don't have that kind of money.Or is tht the whole point?

I'm sure that's not the point. It costs that much or more in other counties that have good teams.

Ever thing in life is not always fair and it's hard for a child to understand that But I grew up in a family of 9 children there was not any sports that I got to be in Later in my my life I had 2 children my 1 daughter played Basket Ball and was in the top 5 players on the team It didn't make her world or brake it she won many Beauty contest which wasn't something she wonted but it was her aunts ideal she is grown up now and has a great job now that not due to ball playing or beauty that due to what she learned in school that is the most wonderful thing. A good "EDUCATION"

For the person above ( FYI ) that posted what her daughter got , clothing , shoes , pom poms , etc...... maybe you should go to the Varsity web site http://www.varsity.com/ and look at the prices. These are prices for anyone and for buying single pieces at a time. I'm sure the schools get a lot better prices cause the buy so much. Bottom line is that the schools are making money from the ones that can afford to be a cheerleader and the really sad part is that there are girls that would give anything to be on the team/teams but cant because of the cost ..........Very Sad.
