its not about making it hard for dealers to make money, its about making it hard for lowlife appalacian inbreds to go rooting around in other peoples property, stealing their ginseng. This actually helps honest dealers, as prices rise. It only hurts the lowlifes that buy from theives.

I live in south central indiana and have been digging for thirty two years and have recently started growing, you only buy stratified seeds , seeds that will sprout in the spring when you plant them that fall cause they have sit in a stratificstion pit for a year, so if you buy stratified seed its really last years seed. Ginseng will only grow where there is at least sixty five days of freezing weather, it needs this to break its dormancy.a digger who digs out of season destroys that plant for the future because seeds dont mature until they are red, and even at that they are considered green seed because of germination rate.I know a guy Duncan furs in Bloomington paying 625 a pound dry, wild simulated sells for close to the same price.. I personally wouldnt waste my time growing it underr artifical shade .goodluck to all the seng diggers in the future as we talk and dream about this remarkable herb

johnywho I have a question for you. I know this is a tuff thing to get into, but I want to take a run at it. So if I want to do this how do I go about it with out getting in trouble or stepping on other pickers toes too?

The best way to dry sang is to put it on a piece of plywood in the shade, if you dry it in the sun it will have spots on it , try to not have the roots touching as this will make them mold. Some people put in the back glass of an old car to dry, it takes about three to four weeks to dry, remember a buyer will ask you if it is from the current year , cause I was told they cant buy root from last year or previous years

I live the new show Appalacian outlaws on History Channel, I feel so sorry for that mike guy trying to protect his sang. The othrr father and son complain about out if state poachers, but yet they go on other peoples land and steal, that makes them a thief and a poacher , all in all wv looks to be a beautiful state full of dang.wow its such a neat herb.

As most everyone who has seen the TV show Appalachian outlaws I wanna get rich too. Now the show has shown people selling it for 11 and even 12 per pound wet in west Virginia. And it says you can hunt for it I. South Carolina until April 1st. So how is that possible without leaves to spot it? I'd drive to sc in a second if I thought I'd make out, but I don't wanna be lost in the woods with no way home. The wifey wouldn't like me spending all the cash for no return. And ideals on this matter?

I really dont see how you can hunt it until april first it doesnt even come up until about the last of april , maybe it was you can sell it until april first..I planted ten pounds last fall behind my gf's house just used a garden rake and raked the leaves and small sticks back , I sowed the seed thick , I know this promotes disease but im trying to get high germination, and just covered it up with leaves.. Ginseng has a season where i live its sept 1st until the frost, the frost kills it and it turns it a light yellow color , very easy to find then but not for long maybe a week then its gone. You can dell it up to march the following year.I hope to plant a hundred pounds next fall , expensive but worth the investment

If anyone is interested in growing yourself just go into your woods preferrably on the north side , but it eill grow on any hill side as long as there is good drainage .Look for hard maples and poplar , it grows around oak also but not as well causr oak leaves dont decompose as fast for seedlings to push through. Sow the seed , if your timing is right the leaves will fall and cover it, i walk on the seed and push it firm into the very lightly worked soil. Ginseng is a unisex plant if your going to plant over fifty pounds ask a dealer to give you seed from different seed plots. Im gong to mix seed from different dealers and sow them so i wont have seed getting smaller cause of genetic clones. I hope i have helped some people in their quest, I dont know everything about seng , im constantly listening and learnig
