I just think that regardless of what weather "up north" has that is irrelevant, because people and children here are not used to these kind of tempatures. Even Knox Co. schools have enough sense to close but I think that Barbourville is just dying to get those children out of school as early as possible regardless of anything else. They have always tried tp beat the county schools at everything. And this guy up here says why dont the parents stand outside and wait on the bus that is kind of hard to do in some situations. I just think that they need to put the children first, and trust me this school doesn't. This is the school that makes the parents pay to put there children in plays at school and when I was in school the last I remember that was the total responsibility of the school. Barbourville Independent has always been about the money...they expect everyone to have it. Plus their school cirriculum is much harder and demanding for young children in the beginning grades, trying to teach them things that are way to hard to learn at that age and it just ends up confusing those poor innocent kids. They try to do TO MUCH! Trust me I have went through it.
Harder curriculum? Not true...Barbourville Elementary uses the same Success for All reading program that every Knox elementary uses.

reading programs, yes, math no. they are trying to teach 1st graders math that shouldn't be taught until 3rd or 4th grade. the math work they have is confusing for me and I am a well educated person. they should make it easier for them to understand. I guess the problem could be with the teachers. one in particular gets aggravated too easy with the students and needs to have more patience. the math is the only problem I have with them. I wish I could take my child out of Barbourville school and put them in county schools, but they won't let us, so we are stuck. I am fed up with that place and will see what I can do about it, if anything. I know we are not the only parents having problems with that school. I will put my child in home school if that is what it takes.

They use the same math program, too. Have you considered having your child tested for special Ed?

have you considered quit being a smart ellick. my child is very smart and bright. I would love to meet you in person. then we could say what we want face to face. that is the problem with you people, if we don't have a lot of money like you do then you all do nothing but put our children down. have you considered quit being a facilitator and leaving it to the ones who know how to teach children?

No matter where your children goes to school, Barbourville or county school money is always a issue. If you have money and support all activities of the school....it does make a difference! Buy a few iPads for the school and see how high your child ranks. Everyone loves support!!!!!!!! Academics, sports, arts, music. Donate some money to any school and see how you rank

Barbourville Ind has missed more school than Corbin Ind. Really people. If I was guessing the parents on hear complaining live in the county. That being said if you want your child to only attend 8 days of school in the month of Jan and to get out the middle of May and be short changed on there education then send them to the county schools and quit complaining.

I am not complaining, just worried about my child. do you worry about yours? or do you even have any? don't judge me. I would rather my child go longer in the summer then get sick from standing outside in the extreme cold. this parents child goes to Barbourville independent. didn't you pay attention to the topic?

oh, by the way, if they go a little longer in the summer, how are they being short changed? are you saying county schools are screwing kids out of education?

Yes and you parents will be complaining this summer while they are going to school in 100 degree temps. So why don't you crying mothers just deal with it, if the truth was known you are upset because you are having to get up out of the bed. Every day they miss that means they have to go longer thru the summer days.
