why is Barbourville independent schools having school in below zero temperatures? small children waiting outside on the bus is in danger of frost bite in just a matter of minutes. it is very dangerous to have 6 and 7 year olds waiting outside in those extreme temperatures. not everyone has the luxuary of having a nice warm car for them to wait in. they won't head to the warnings the news gives until a child dies from pneumonia or loses a limb from frost bite. what is wrong with them?

You should try living up north. They go to school in much worse, trust me.

If you don't have a car to shelter your child/ren while waiting, why not leave them inside while you wait for the bus? Makes more sense, I would much rather stand and wait than put my child out to wait, plus I'm sure the bus drivers allow them time to walk from the house, if not I am sure they would if you asked if they could wait for them.

of course it makes sense to let them wait inside, that's if you can see the bus stop from inside an apartment, which we can't. the bus would be gone down the road before we ever knew it was close.

I just think that regardless of what weather "up north" has that is irrelevant, because people and children here are not used to these kind of tempatures. Even Knox Co. schools have enough sense to close but I think that Barbourville is just dying to get those children out of school as early as possible regardless of anything else. They have always tried tp beat the county schools at everything. And this guy up here says why dont the parents stand outside and wait on the bus that is kind of hard to do in some situations. I just think that they need to put the children first, and trust me this school doesn't. This is the school that makes the parents pay to put there children in plays at school and when I was in school the last I remember that was the total responsibility of the school. Barbourville Independent has always been about the money...they expect everyone to have it. Plus their school cirriculum is much harder and demanding for young children in the beginning grades, trying to teach them things that are way to hard to learn at that age and it just ends up confusing those poor innocent kids. They try to do TO MUCH! Trust me I have went through it.

Make up your mind! You first worry about the dangers of your child standing in the cold yet you wont protect it by waiting for the bus yourself letting the child stay safe and warm inside. What are you talking about parents paying for their children to be in plays? Seriously I thought this was about having school with zero temperatures, now you are babbling on about money , beating up on the county, etc. Seems to me since you are so dissatisfied with the city school you should put your children in the county school system, judging from your comments they seem to meet all of your wants.

I have wondered why myself, its just cruel to have these kids waiting on the bus or walk to school like many in the city do. All the money in the world is NOT worth one child getting sick or getting hurt, just too many dangers for little reward, and I mean the reward of a couple days of school. I dont think 2 or 3 days is going to cause a child to fall behind. Its all about the money or probably more like the Super and Principles not having the Balls to stand up to Dinky. But from what several kids have told me it wouldnt hurt for him to go to a few extra classes, several have told me that he struggles to read from the school books....so sad that the so called Powers that be let Bull like this go on. I think Teachers should be tested once a year to see where they stand.

I think they was just showing how money hungry Barbourville independent school systems are and if you don't live in the jurisdiction for county schools then they have to go to Barbourville schools. they don't have a choice, believe me I tried to get my child out of Barbourville schools. someone needs to beat up on this county, then maybe they might get their eyes open. do you have children in Barbourville schools. quit bashing a concerned mother.

we have received letters from school stating that it will cost so much for being in plays. they have to buy their costumes and anything else that they would need for the play. shouldn't they use some of the money they make off selling children a small bag of chips for 50 cents, a sucker for a dollar or a small portion of nachos and cheese for $1.25. they are making a fortune off our children and where does the money go. the mayor isn't the only one that needs to be investigated.

If Dinky had not been an athlete he would be mowing lawns for a living because he is barely literate. It is no secret how he made it through school and beyond.
That's great for him, but unfortunate for the kid's whose names he cannot pronounce, much less spell. It's too bad, but it is the world we inhabit.
