SpywareBlaster is a free stand alone adware preventor that will not interfere with your other virus program, and will not put a load on your computer. SpywareBlaster has a database of thousands of known adware, and if you click on a site with any of the known listed adware, it prevents the adware from accessing your computer. This is a nice little, free program.

I'd take it further and run Firefox with 'NoScript','Adblock plus', and,'Ghostery' Add-ons to block ad-ware before it can even get a chance to install/display.
Toss in 'Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware' for good measure.

Using SpywareBlaster, when I click on Topix (or similar sites with ads), I get a notification that says: "an add-on for this site failed to run". That's great...who wants that nonsense on their computer? Also, Dyslexic Luthor, you are right, Firefox blocks ad-ware before it starts. I just prefer Internet Explorer, and with SpywareBlaster, I get the same effect you mentioned with Firefox. It's great to be able to surf the web without that annoying (and sometimes dangerous) ad-ware.

SpywareBlaster does not scan and remove spyware and cookies from your computer. It prevents them from being installed in the first place...an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. This is a great computer tool, and it is free!
