I've heard this for years. If we are spending thousands and thousands of dollars a month to house prisoners elsewhere and putting millions into that money pit hospital does that sound right? Poor decisions.

I agree this town has already lost money over the years 2017 is to long to wait more money to waste I don't know why it takes this town 2000 years to do anything so slow!

A new jail sound good ON THE SURFACE. After all, look at all the money Knox County spends housing inmates in other places because there is not enough room presently. Millions are spent on this each year. However, there is a slight catch to having large new jail. I know this from past experience having lived in another part of Kentucky in which a new, huge jail had been built. TO PAY FOR THE HUGE NEW JAIL THEY KEPT IT FILLED. You might think, so what...all the crooks need in jail...and that part is true. However, in the town I lived in, the courts would give time to people who usually would only have paid a fine in other counties (they wanted that jail FULL for the money). Plus, in situations where someone would have received a short sentence elsewhere, that town gave them 60-90-180 days or more in order to keep the jail filled. The new word of the day, in that town, became "CONTEMPT OF COURT". Why? That charge led to 180 automatic days in jail...and helped keep the jail filled. In that town, the charge of "contempt of court" flew like confetti at a New Year's Celebration.
I'll admit, I was not very sympathetic to the jailbirds complaints for several years. I figured they were getting what they deserved and that "if they couldn't do the time they shouldn't do the crime". I changed my mind when a friend of mine (a very decent, honest person), got 180 days in jail for "Contempt of Court" for failing to appear for jury duty. He had previously talked to officials and they told him he was excused due to caring for a sick parent. A nice, decent, honest guy got 180 days for no good reason. THIS WAS WAY OVERBOARD BUT THEY HAD TO KEEP THE JAIL FULL AND MAKE MONEY. This is what a new, large jail can lead to...and in that town IT DID! How about here?

When did the genius decide that we needed a new jail, after the last election or just before this election. You almost got us on this one, were gullible
