Tickets too high

Daniel Boone is coming up soon and for some reason the tickets get higher every year! I believe that they should bring back the bracelets! The children cant have any fun if they have 20 tickets but the rides take 3 tickets each! Doe anbody else agree?

The ticket price has to be high enough that the owner of the ride can make money after he pays the cost of bringing the ride to town, and paying people to set it up, take it down, and haul it to the next place.

I would expect the price of tickets would increase proportionally to the cost of gasoline (and electricity to run the ride and labor to attend the ride, put it up, take it down).

Another question might be: Have you reviewed the safety record of the carnival operator? Has anyone been hurt on their rides? Have they broken and hurt anyone? Most rides that travel with carnivals are not particularly safe. If they have an incident, they get out of town before the police catch up with them. Then they go to another state and do it again.

Another question might be: Why do we tolerate the carnival coming to town and carting away all the money in Knox County for the month. There are a lot of kids that are hungry for the rest of the month when the carnival leaves town. I suspect, but of course can't proove, that a lot of welfare check, food stamp money, that was intended to feed the kids, is burned away for a few seconds on a carnival ride. As a society, why do we tolerate this? Can we stop it? Do we want to? How did a festival that was intended to celebrate our heritage become instead a way to empty the pockets of the entire town?

If you are confident that you are sending your child to a safe environment, I think it is an excellent chance to teach the child some economics. If 20 tickets are all that you/he can afford, then he needs to decide how he is going to spend them. That is the same decisions adults make with their money and there is no reason a child can't do the same(Believe me, they are good at it).

But as to whether the price is to high: If you go to Disney Land, you will pay 65$ or so for a ticket. Most days, the lines are so long, that if you ride 6-10 rides, you have had a busy day.

Your kid is going to have 20 tickets, which presumably were a lot less than 65$ at Disney and is pretty much guaranteed he can ride 6 rides.

Sounds like those tickets are cheap!(But I suspect the Disney rides are safer. They are at least bolted to the ground and inspected ooccasionlly. And yes, I know that even Disney has an occasional drastic accident).

Youve completely gotten off the topic! Im taling about daniel boone! Not disney land! And plus, if it cits so much for the owner to pay the labor, then why dont they just do it themselves? Also, at the county fair we have every year they have braceletes! And not even half of the people in one area ofthe daniel boone go to the county fair. So you know that of the county fai can bring the rides and sell braceletes to such a small amount of people and afford it, then all the people that go to the danel boone would give alot more for the braceltes because not only are ppl from bvill there, butfrom other countys as well! So if that small amount of people paying fo bracletes at the county fair can afford to sell braceletes, then so can the peopl;e at daniel boone! Its only fair! And one bracelete is all some people can afford,if that, so it should be only fair to sell the bacletes!

I agree, someone has gotten way off topic. I agree. I like to ride also and the bracelets are a great idea. I guess it's supply and demand...if people are willing to pay the higher prices, they will charge you for them. Rides aren't open Monday to Sunday are they? Most county fairs are. Maybe that has something to do with it. The cost is the same to travel and put up the rides, but since they are not riding them for 7 days, the revenue is lower so they have to make up for it.

I feel sorry for the children that can't afford to ride the rides. I'm not talking about any welfare, food stamp, etc. issues, just poor families. Wish something could be done for them. The other kids come back to school talking about having fun, riding the rides, and eating the food and the ones who can't afford all of that feel hurt and left out. Prices do need to come down.

Yes, prices have been outrageous since the mid-90's.

Then I would suggest you go buy some tickets and pass them out to the people you feel deserving.. The carnival is a for profit company and has costs and salaries and profit. They should charge what ever the market will pay and if some people cannot afford that cost then they don't go. My kid wanted a dirt bike because all his friends had them.. I could not afford it so he didn't get one... but the next year he started cutting grass and I helped him with a few other projects and he saved up enough to buy one.. I suggest that Parents use the festival as a Life Lesson situation and tell their kids they don't have much money and they need to start at in the spring saving up and finding odd jobs to earn enough money to pay their own way to the rides and then when they are 20 they may not be living in your basement waiting for the next hand out... Life is not fair and too many kids are taught it's suppose to be...

did you notice the fair did not come to b'ville this year. the reason because they did not make enuf money to come back, think about it. they charged a high price to get in and for tickets, and still could not make enuf money. its sad but it is what it is
