There is no excuse to lie. I haven't seen this particular author. Thanks for sharing. I'm sorry that this person left you with a distaste for all Mormon scholars.
Mormon scholars are apologists for the BoM. Apologists are basically professional rhetoricians, seeking to uphold a particular belief even in the face of evidence against it.

I love reading apologists' work because it really sharpens your critical thinking skills. They twist words, apply their reasons unevenly, and pull every dirty trick in the book to make their case. Kind of like a trial lawyer arguing that Gacy didn't do it.

The Bible is, and always was, the only Word of God, providing, in it’s own words, a lamp to our feet, and a light to our paths. The Bible is our only sure guide to heaven, containing all the counsel and guidance we need along what is often a long and difficult journey.
You would benefit from reading Kugel's "How to Read the Bible". Especially the parts pertaining to Modern Bible Scholarship. It seems that archeology and history do not paint such a harmonious picture of the good ole book.

Right, because the boy screaming in pain and freaking at the sight of blood could have been an illusion. All of that pain equates to his dad fooling him like pulling a penny out of his ear.
Haha. Whatever. You say 1 witness is enough, then try your best to discount 3 witnesses.
Proof, evidence, whatever you want to call it, it is convincing enough to me, as it would be to any one of you that had this happen to a close friend of yours that you have always trusted as an honest person, as well as their spouse.
You all claim that miracles aren't possible because they are always a coincidence. I give you a good example of one that could not be coincidence, and you all treat me as if I am a fool. Thanks for fulfilling scripture.
Dude, my kid FREAKS OUT over a bug bite. If he sees blood he goes into fits. Why is it impossible to you that this was a case of a much less significant wound that bled a lot and a whole lot of people freaked out by it?

In retrospect we can paint events in just about any light we want. In controlled studies people show that they have terrible memories or that their ability to notice things is not very good. Check this one out:

http://bigthink.com/videos/missing-the-200-po...

If people can miss the gorilla in the video or the woman with the umbrella then why do you think the ear situation was reported accurately? Our brains are amazing machines but we have a much higher opinion of our memory and ability to evaluate situations than we should have.

We reject your miracle because all evidence and reason screams that it is not what you think it is. Why would I ignore this fact and put faith in your idea? If my best friend told me a similar story I would not think it was a miracle. I would think he misread the whole event.

an apologist is anyone who defends something. try being honest in the future.

even old school scientist tend to be apologetics for newer ideas that call into question old school understanding.

I'm enjoying your posts. Keep it up!
The magician analogy is very good. We already know that a ton of faith healers, psychics, and other frauds are essentially doing stage magic to fool people into believing in magic powers.
The idea that someone could pray and have a miracle take place is magical thinking. And insulting, IMHO. It suggests that people who suffer, pray, and still suffer are not doing it as well. Or that God just likes them better.
Then they say "well we can't understand God's plan". Really? Then how exactly can you claim to have seen a miracle? Once you state that you can't understand God's sense of morality or justice then how can you ever look at any situation and make a claim about what God is doing?
It's just dumb.
science knows from the placebo effect that modern scientific remedies can be ineffectual based on the patients belief/unbelief.

this isn't rocket science. a persons willingness to participate in a regimen is going to make the success more probable only through participation and the belief that it will work.

u can lead a horse to water but no matter how much you believe he needs to drink, the horse isn't going to take a sup until it wants to do so.

Hence it is forbidden to lend Him any form or similitude, or even to call Him by His sacred name, or to indicate Him by a single letter or a single point.... Not over my head. You make the claim that a guy was spared by God for a few months so that he could make peace with God. People live and they die - what their religious status is at the time makes no difference whatsoever. Your fantasy fails. It was not worth acknowledging then, and is only worth a mention now to illuminate the glaring fallacy in your (loosely called) "train of thought".
