<quoted text>Exodus and the Ten Commandments help. Even Abel's murder is condemned, though uniquely, not with capital punishment. I support capital punishment; this is where we differ.

<quoted text>It's best to study the bible with someone who respects religion and women both. Biblical patriarchy don't define our society and government.
They call Christians sexist because of the way they read the bible. I find that problematic at best. I don't blame Christians, I blame the ACLU.
I'm not interested in discussing religion with a forum troll. Your replies here are either total dodges ("times change"??) or non-sequiturs (a refernce to Al-f*cking-Gore??). It's a waste of my time even reading them.

But I will offer this, not for your sake but because its on my mind. I do actually enjoy reading about religions. And I have studied the Bible before, not in an attempt to ridicule it but to understand what it is. I enjoy reading Biblical criticism. I like understanding the difference between Modern Biblical Scholarship and Ancient Biblical Scholarship. Frankly, reading these old stories is a great exercise in critical thinking.

Regarding the Bible and modern Christianity, I find it strange that Christians can claim to use the Bible as a moral authority when it clearly has no moral consistency. You or someone else mentioned the fact that murder has always been unacceptable. And in some cases God does punish murderers to some degree. But in other cases it is ignored, as in the sons of Jacob murdering all the men of a city after lying to them. No punishment, not even a stern warning. Yet a few chapters later it is mentioned in passing that there was a guy (Er?) who God felt was wicked...so he killed him. No reason. Just did it.

Yeah, I figured that. That's a lot to ask for a person to give up on their sexual desires. I'm straight and had the testosterone of a bull elephant. If it was turned around and I had to sleep with a gay guy because my church required it then I couldn't do it.
Some people are just wired different and they don't like the same things we like. Those people are people too. I can't understand a loving God that is so petty. If I was God I wouldn't care who loved who. I'd want my people to find happiness without hurting anyone to get it.
To ask someone to renounce their inner desires is just to much control for me.
70+% are beguiled into it, the rest...
well... we've found the causes of down syndrome, I'm sure
with a lil research we can find a cure for it!...

Wrong Again Sparky..The following verses,found in the Old Testament,Isaiah 53;1 to 12 ,,Is Isaiah saying this of himself,or of someone else.
Isaiah 53:1-12
53 Who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
4 Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away.
Yet who of his generation protested?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was punished.
9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.
11 After he has suffered,
he will see the light of life and be satisfied;
by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,
and he will divide the spoils with the strong,
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.
He is speaking of Jesus... Amen!

Great Post,,,Great contrast between those who live according to their human nature and those who diligently seek and fear God
Romans 3:10-18
10 As the Scriptures say,
“No one is righteous—
not even one.
11 No one is truly wise;
no one is seeking God.
12 All have turned away;
all have become useless.
No one does good,
not a single one.”[a]
13 “Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave.
Their tongues are filled with lies.”
“Snake venom drips from their lips.”[b]
14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”[c]
15 “They rush to commit murder.
16 Destruction and misery always follow them.
17 They don’t know where to find peace.”[d]
18 “They have no fear of God at all.”[e]
Great post...

The fool has said in his heart,There is no God
The inability of FOOLS to interpret this parable,
"“Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and attack you"
serves to validate the truth which is contained therein.
As a dog,returns to his vomit,so does a fool,repeat his folly.
Like a lame man's legs, which hang useless, is a proverb in the mouth of fools....
What I like is when the lady told Jesus...
"Even the dogs eat of the scraps from the masters table"(paraphrasing)....

To those on this website who believe in God and Jesus Christ.You have expressed your reasons for the basis of your faith. Those on this website,who do not believe in God,are totally unable to understand the basis for our Sacred beliefs.and in their inability to do so,consider our beliefs to be foolishness.
This should not surprise us,the Apostle Paul spoke plainly on this subject 1 corinthians1;18 to 25
We,who believe in Jesus,do so ,by believing his teachings,and this is part of what he taught
10 And the disciples came and said to Him,“Why do You speak to them in parables?” 11 He answered and said to them,“Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:
‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;
15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed,
Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them
Therefore the Parable,taught by Jesus
""Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and attack you"
is found to be truthful and accurate.
According to Jesus's teachings,in order to interpret his parables,you have to believe in him.
The Atheists claim they understand Jesus's parable,but do not believe in him.
Their false claim,that they understand the parable,is confirmed to be a false claim,since they have been unable to provide the answer as to it's meaning...They can not explain what Jesus meant when he said
"""Do not give what is holy to dogs" nor can they explain,what he meant when he says"and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and attack you"
Thereby fullfilling Isaiah's prophecy"‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;"
Great post!

Actually the Inquisition was civil code and set the actions and lifestyles of all it could control, was the religious/government prime civil code and anyone not following the codes of conduct set forth were arrested, jailed, tortured and killed... Decency is a Variable based on the norms at the time... What would be called Decent today would have been considered an abomination in the past and thing in the past that were considered decent would be considered abhorrent today... Respect is Earned, If given without being earned it has no value.... Religions are based on conquest, power grabbing and abuse... Also human ego run amuck....
That doesn't sound like Christ's teachings... does it?
