This is why we need to end the 50 years of giving money to Haiti, and other countries.
The "safety net" has been abused and needs reform, some times people need help. Years of unemployment? Blow me! Six months and thats all. But the elderly whom have paid in to the system, paid taxes, built the roads we drive on and the public buildings we use deserve their benefits.(they paid for them)
Welfare? two years tops. Have 4 kids? Give them up to a family member who can afford them we only help with the first two. Can not work because you have kids? Then work at a daycare so single mothers can work.
But I am a socialist when it comes to education and NEEDED health care (got the sniffles? Get over it!)
As a "civilized society" we do have to pay a price. Taxes pay for military protection, police protection, fire dept. roads schools and so much more

But what about the people who work at grocery stores and gas stations?(or chinamart) They work, and some one has to do their jobs. The business will not pay them enough to live on (chinamart is the worst offender)
Do they get assistance for years? If they "get a better job" who will fix your burger at Wendy's or cash you out at Kroger's?
How will our troll live off of his pay from Taco Bell?

Count me in... Set a policy that we do not become global benefactors.. Beyond that pull all aid, support, troops from any country that does not either want us there or does not abide by Our Rules...

A few hours ago you stated you were an agnostic until I ridiculed you; now you're suddenly a bonafide atheist. LOL
Imagine that.

"Ooooo, I'm an agnostic. Nope, nope. I'm an atheist. Noooo..wait a minute. There goes the needle.... ATHEIST! Wait. Hold up. I'm an Agnostic again."

Can you say "Flip Flop"?

Yes, Spacely, I'm the "lonely" one because I'm on topix ridiculing you hypocrites and religious NUTS who struggle with uncertainty. And, you're on topix why? For the intellectualism?

"gunjee"? Speaking of spelling bees... LOL

No. You said you WERE an agnostic for a long time and now the "needle" has MOVED to atheist.

Your illiterate words:
" I for a long time was agnostic and now the needle for me has move to atheist. "
That doesn't sound at all like the certainty of an atheist or you would've said you are most absolutely an atheist... not just leaning toward it.

As if you're looking at an imaginary fluctuating odometer, you analyze your beliefs with such blatant uncertainty.... "Yeah, I'm kinda leanin' toward atheism today." ROFL

Just think about all those years ("I for a long time was agnostic") you wasted wallowing in doubt wondering why your god was ignoring you.
Now, suddenly, after your hypocrisy is exposed, and you're embarrassed, you're a die hard Atheist!
I'm going to call you FLIPPER from now on.

Yes I have read it. There are many distortions of the Bible. First, "EvilBible" doesn't cover the Bible in detail, and there are many things out of context. I used to love that site, until I started seeing the lies. Also, much of the violence in the Bible was stuff God warned AGAINST. But God gave us free will. Would you rather he stop us from doing what we choose? No you wouldn't, that is if he exists. Second, much of the customs in the Bible were cultural, not divine.
I swing the question to you. Have you read it? If so, did you understand it's history and culture, not just the spiritual passages?
Good post!

Your ignorance is amusing, but not blissful. The Bible is not made of hate. In fact, it teaches love, peace, the golden rule, the non-aggression principle, and personal responsibility. Each text of the major religions share this quality. If you don't want to read or understand the Bible, fine, but don't claim you know it. Wouldn't that be like requiring faith to believe its evil since you don't understand it??? lol!
But it is the evil of *individuals* who distort religion. Religion can't physically hurt you, people with or without religion can. Remember, many atheists have committed atrocities, too. But not because they're atheist. Same thing about believers.
Another thing, if a Christian does wrong and you blame religion and not the individual, what does that say about your own morality?
Great post!

It's true for them, too. Many Christians do quote the Bible out of context. That's why religion has a bad name, because God apparently has said many things he never said. lol!
I'm not sure that was a True story, or just one to instill respect in kids!
We see what cildren of today do without respect to no one, even their parents!
I'm am sure that the commandment to Honor our Father, and Mother
extends past not sassing them, as how much honor could one give
their parents by becoming a thief, murderer, or a pervert...
I'd say also that would extend past the grave!

The actions of Pilate, Herod, and Judas were voluntary actions. They chose to do what they did. I believe the Bible is just a book, and not the "literal word of God" - so I think People mistranslated it for personal reasons. It would be uncharacteristic of the Biblical God to "have a plan". He gave us free will. He probably knows the outcomes of our decisions before they happen, or even know all of the possible outcomes, but I seriously doubt, per this religion, that God has given us a predestination.
I blame the U.S. and allies for World War II. Because of Euro-Eastern bloodlust, they went to war over egoism, then the U.S. got involved and made the war worse. Then after the war, the peace talks were very, and wrongfully, unfair to Germany. That inspired a young Adolf Hitler to be nationalist and "patriotic" to his country. He rose to power, by democratic means, and found a scapegoat (the Slavish, the Jews, and other undesirables, in that order) to do so. And the Japanese didn't attack unprovoked. Franklin Roosevelt tore a page from history (thanks to Madison in regards to the War of 1812 with the British) and antagonized the Japanese and imposed economic sanctions against them, over nothing. This caused Japan to "throw the first punch", which was expected, and then we went to war claiming "self-defense". DR repeated another horror from history (Adams and Lincoln did this) by enacting illegal orders of sedition, mostly on Japanese-Americans.
And yes, each individual should be held accountable for their actions. "Following orders" isn't an excuse, and shouldn't be used as a license to kill
Since it is a sure thing that logic and reason doesn't have a chance of leading a member of the flock to logic and reason, the tendency is to use examples from the religious tome(s)... and that doesn't work, either.
Free will vs prophesy? The outcome of the argument is stalemated before it even begins.

"Antagonized the Japanese"? No offense, but yes, I think a page got torn from history. We can resume when you have found it.

99% of the devout don't understand the big picture of it. When you look at the world through rose colored glasses, you are in fact just looking though a filter.
A "God experience" is likely due to an atrophied hippocampus. Have you ever done inordinate amounts of certain mood altering chemicals?
Pro what, exactly? Pro ignorance? Pro superstition? Pro anti-science? Pro intolerance...?

Actually the cutting of trees in the winter was the only way log in the north during the days of logging virgin forests... they would log when you could water down the drag ways to help the logs slide easier as they hauled them to the stacking yards... In the summer months the swamps, creeks and Mosquitoes made it almost impossible to timber along most of the northern timber regions...
That is why in the spring you could see vast fields of stumps that were about 4 foot high as the trees were cut to the snow pack level and in the spring the stumps were left behind... After the logs were dragged to the stacking areas (Generally close to a river or narrow gauge train track) they would wait until the spring thaw when the rivers would flow deep and push the logs into the river to raft down to the mills down river (knocking out every bridge built across the river the past year).... Some of the log piles would be 100 to 200 foot high and stacked for a mile along both sides of the river... Waiting for the spring thaw....
Very interesting! I was born in a logging community...
Why was lumber so much higher there, than in the desert?
