County officials awaiting Jailtracker's return
Friday, 29 March 2013 14:40
A web site that's sparked some local debate and a twinge of controversy could soon be up and running once again.
Knox County Jailer Mary Hammons told the Knox County Fiscal Court divisive web site JailTracker, which is a corrections management system which includes inmate photos and charges, could be available to the public again sometime soon.
Hammons told the court at their monthly meeting Wednesday that the web site was nearly ready for public usage, with the exception of a firewall to protect the Knox County Detention Center's account information.
Once that firewall is added, Jailtracker will be available to the public once again.
County officials decided last year to remove the site from public view.
Their decision came after local residents complained to various county officials about Jailtracker, even though the removal sparked outcry from others.
The site's detractors claimed it was unfair to publish mug shots of all people arrested because some were later found not guilty.
Hammons told court members in a previous meeting that the Knox County Detention Center
was considering reinstating the site to public view because the mug shots were being printed weekly in the Mountain Advocate.

They lost my vote a year ago when they shut jailtracker down. I'm not for sale and neither are my principals.

Some of the officials that voted on closeing down the jailtracker just simply did'nt care either way because they did'nt know how important it was to the public. From what i understand there was only one person that showed up wanting to keep it on.I know jm hall an the jailer had a big part in it,but most of them just did'nt know it meant so much. Not all of them are bad people, some of them will try an help you but they get a bad wrap because of the rest.

This must be an April fools joke and you think think the people of knox county are the fools! Neither care about what you, me or anyone else feels about jailtracker, the closing of the hospitals long term, the benches at the court house, or anything else they decide to do and get by with. All they want is your vote! Sorry, no can do. WHOEVER runs against them gets my vote,

I'm not going to put anyone's name on here so they can be personaly attacked. An i'm not talking about any certain one of them,i'm just saying that there are a few of them that will try an help you if they can. There is some things they simply cant do.It seems as though people want to attack ALL POLITICIANS just because of jailtracker. There is some of them that believe that mugshots should not be posted all over the internet until they are proven guility,an there is some of them that ARE just trying to keep there family's mugshot from being seen,an there is some that just really dont care if jailtracker is up or not.An other than the ones that are trying to protect there family from being on jailtracker should be allowed to have an opinion about it also without being called every scum bag name in the world.I myself enjoy checking out jailtracker, but that dont mean everyone else has to agree with what i like or want.If it was shut down because of the politicians that are just protecting there family then be pissed at those politicians, not everyone of them.Because the rest of them are entilted to there opinion just as we are.

I want whats legal under the law for everyone equally and the law says public information belongs to everyone and if its kept that way it stays fair for all. Thats not my choice your choice or some politicians choice and its shure not there to hide criminal activity.
