wow that is cool. you should post the pics. so what is story on the hangings? i have heard and ready bout a haunted house on road out by bhs. idk if it still stands, the story goes, there were 3 sisters, spinsters if you will for various reasons, they cursed the next generation or so and then became 3 sisters who became single all in the same house - where the first set sisters haunted them- say you couldnt stay there, stuff fly out cabinets, doors slam. drove them all crazy. ive even seen the story published on this. it was lil more vague tho- just saying in knox county jus outside the town.

Up around Kay jay, there was a mining camp called Anchor and the coal company kept blacks as slaves around the 20s or 30s, way after slaver had officially ended. I remember my grandpa telling the story and showing me where they are all buried.

I believe there was once a write-up in the paper about a house that was haunted on Knox Street. I'm pretty sure it was a two story house that was on the corner lot next to Knox Funeral Home. The house was later torn down and a gas station took its place, which is now gone too. I don't remember the story but I'm sure it could be found in the Advocate archives if your interested.

If you do look this house up, it was the Owen's mansion. I've heard the gas station was haunted too.

I've been told back in 1800s they kept a slave and used him to pregnant women because he was a big man. So, they would have big healthy farm hands . This suppose to happened in stinking creek

I've heard things that would blow your mind, but I'm afraid to type any of them out publicly.

It was a common practice to selectively mate slaves throughout the south. There were more slaves and slave owners in Knox Co. and on Stinking Creek than some people realize. However, slaveowners were generally wealthy people. They used black females to make more slaves. If you are suggesting they paired this man with their wives or daughters or white women in general, you are mistaken. The social customs of the time would have made such a
thing highly scandalous and illegal. It is, however, a fact that some slaveowners fathered children by their female slaves.(Thomas Jefferson for example.)
I'm not saying it was your intention, but there are enough ignorant Knox Countians on here who like to put Stinking Creek down without adding some false events. Yes there are some people here that are easy to criticize and judge. Those people are all over the world. The Creek is no worse than the rest of the county. I am reminded of that when I look through and see the posts people start here about how dumb or stupid people from the creek are. I'm not going to bother to proofread what I just typed. If there are errors I'm sure people needing to feel better about themselves will point them out.

(Oh...) yes they do....I've had fights and death threats over this site before. Most people are just courteous enough not to put it on here. Although someone did put it on here awhile back. I am not custom to violence anymore, as I was when I was younger, because I now have to walk on a cane.
