The whitley County thing happened before Lonnie Anderson so probably around 1989 or 90. As for the state sanctions, the FACTS are that not all the schools listed as PLA schools had their principal or their SBDM removed, so yes, it is a reflection on the District. Also the number of focus schools identified in Knox this year is a very high percentage of schools. The state is not pleased with Knox but more iportantly should be the taxpayers in this county not being pleased and the parents are already not pleased and many have sent their kids to get better educations in Corbin and barbourville.
That is exactly what they should do and then let those who choose to stay at central worry about central. Central will be fine as well as the entire district. If the state didnt agree,, then action would have already been taken.Personal vendettas have no place in the education system....keep those with the politicians.

You keep action would be taken when actios was taken. It was the highest level of action they could have taken and the Board had the decision as to which model for improvement they used. You say that everyone will be fine but obviously with the test scores indicating so few are college or career ready and the ACT scores so low also, the students are not fine and won't be fine in their future. IF the school improves in a few years, sll the students in the meantime will not be fine. You assume the facts represent a vendetta when actually sticking your head in the sand represents a lack of caring for the education of the students.

Just felt the need to add this...
I have a student from a prominent family in this town who so far this year has missed 15 days of school, he rarely turns in homework and when he does its rarely done right. Tests, he's never made higher than a 70% and his behavior, well is simply horrible! I've asked to have a conference with the parents and I've been turned down... TWICE!!!
What the hell does it matter if a kid comes from a "prominent" family or not? If a kid needs help it should not matter what kind of family they come from. That's always been the problem. I never finished college but I had enough hours to substitute and I can tell you from experience that there are plenty of kids over the years that can't read and barely right there name but they are in high school. I think you have a problem with this kids family because what does this have to do with this thread at all? Teachers are to blame for a lot of the eduactional problems because I've seen it with my own eyes some of them, many of them, DO NOT TEACH!

There are bad teachers... BUT... There are horrible parents also... A teacher has a hundred or more students if they just have 3 or 4 classes a day an they cannot provide one on one for every student that sits in their class for 1 hour each day, Then if you add just 3 or 4 problem students that disrupt the class that teacher has to take time from someone that needs it to deal with a out of control student...

The Parent has the responsibility to teach respect for the teachers and the other students, to teach a ethic and discipline to be in class on time and do the work, to teach their kids the importance of doing best they can and taking personal responsibility for completing assignments and doing the Home Work required...

While I think Teachers should be tested, reviewed and have class rooms monitored... I do not expect Teachers or the School System to Raise children and take the place of a Parent all together...

If you, the parents or guardian, Show up for every ball game and have never been to a PTA meeting or a meeting with your kids teachers and the kid is tardy or absent a lot, has low grades then you, the parents or guardian, are the problem...

It is perfectly clear where your motives root from, Personal feelings have no place in the matter...I definetely would not want a person with your logic involved in educating a child of mine.

And where do my motives root from since it is perfectly clear? I have no interest in educating your child but I would do a great job or not do it. I don't believe in half ass.

I do not know why they would give the teachers a raise because they do not teach the children they send it home for the parents to teach them They do not bring home a text book or anything that will help that child and they do not care if the child pays attention in class or not because they are to busy doing other things that has nothing to do with teaching a child the way they should be taught

I don't think it will ever recover,(The School System) the damage has already been done and that is sad. If someone has the answer then why not post it because all you can hear is everone complaning about it but know one seems to do anything about it. If the Department of Education don't make a move and come in this district you can bet it will never be any better. No matter who is the Sup, The state sends down the guidlines and if you don't implament it then who is at fault. First you have got too get the morral back to the teachers morral is the lowest it has ever been. Give credit where credit is due,pat someone on the back when they deserve it don't down grade'em. How can you teach when you are scared to death of the ones that are over you meaning Central office Boss's and then you wonder what is wrong. I have allways heard you can get more with Honey than you can with Vinager. When you meet a teacher on the street and thay start crying because they are scared to death then something or someone is not doing what their paid to do. Shame it is in this mess and Mr Hullett it starts with you.

Base welfare checks on test scores then you will have kids in class that want to learn. If they don't make good scores then their sorry parents will have to get a job. If the parents have to work for their money then the kids will get their asses busted. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

You know that would be fine if everyone had a job,but if everbody went out today to get a job just where would they find one. So here we are with what we got these kids are smart and i don't think its the checks that has anything to do with it. If you want it (Education) its free people can point fingers all they want but there has allways been poor kids, in school i know i was on of them.It starts with everone in power just don't cast stones went you live in glass houses ok.

This foolishness and show boating will cause layoffs next year. And for what? 2% equals less than 15 bucks per week for teachers, less than 5 dollars for cooks, bus drivers, etc. Yet when you multiply it times all the employees in the district it will amount to over $400,000. I would guess this will cost several teachers and classified people their jobs. Of course, Crawford, Hossie, and Brown will have their revenge in leaving behind a bankrupt district saddled with a 5 year reciprocal agreement with Barbourville that could end up costing us another million or so.

Yep, sure put the Knox Schools in their place, didn't they.
Ever what all the teachers I have had like their money$$$$$$$$$$
