Someone close to me is getting ready to have this surgery and I was just wondering if anyone else has had it and if it really works or not?

I went to a dr in London and was told that because I smoke, it would only last five years, then have to have it re-done. Is there any truth in that?? When I get a cough, mine is EXTREMELY bad! I have to wear those Tena pads, the most absorbant they offer. I'm only 30.. this keeps me from doing a lot of things afraid if I'm sick I'll have a accident. It's horrible...

it is done as out patient. there is no danger in the surgery. as far as a time frame that it last I wasn't given a time frame I have a friend that smokes had it done and it has been over 5 yrs the doctors didn't mention anything like smoking would effect it I just wish i had it done sooner instead of having to wear protection all the time.

There were a number of people who complained of complications after the surgery. Adverse events have been reported to the FDA include pelvic pain, infections, bleeding, and even erosion of the device. There are articles at http://www.bladderslingrecall.us/ that could be a good reference for people concerned and interested.

Yes they are advertising it on tv and are MANY law suits going on right now. My mother in laws came loose and she's now in the same boat as was before.

Dr. Viner now lives in Australia so not a good recommendation unless someone is up for a trip. He was on house hunters international not long a go.
