First theres the overt racism of Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) and his inane comments about Mexican immigrants. Apparently this old, white guy really is afraid of our darker skinned friends to the south. In an interview with CNN, King said of the Dreamers, kids who were brought here by their undocumented parents,You know, you only get one valedictorian per class per year. And they arent all dreamers. And a lot of other American kids out here that are competing for that valedictorian status. But every night there are dozens and scores of people that are smuggling drugs across our border. This isnt something that just was made up out of thin air. This is something I get from the people enforcing the law down on the border. Of course The Washington Post just gave that canard four Pinnochios since theres literally no end to the amount of bullshit in that statement.
It cant be denied that Kings comments most definitely represent at least some portion of Tea Party congressional representatives as well as their constituents. It also cant be denied that national party officials rightfully freaked out on King and several prominent Republicans both in and out of Congress have lambasted King for his overtly racist commentary. Theres something important to remember though King didnt have any compunction at all about spewing his hate speech. You have to ask yourself why? And the answer youre going to come up with is,Because he knew ultimately hed get away with it. John Boehner is an incompetent Speaker with no control over his fringe (yet) so the embarrassing gaffes, racist remarks and rape comments arent going to stop. The Republican Civil War will rage on, and even the big dogs of the party wont be immune.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) may have two of the largest egos among the crop of presumed 2016 GOP presidential nominees. Neither one of them has met a microphone they couldnt belch pedantic bullshit into. So it would only make sense that these two Alpha-dog wannabes would be butting heads. Christie took up the mantle for the non-Libertarian wing of the party when he went after Rands political ideology as this strain of libertarianism thats going through both parties right now and making big headlines, I think, is a very dangerous thought.
While Im not sure what kind of libertarian strain is going through the left-wing currently (other than saying,Hey, maybe we shouldnt discriminate against minorities and members of the LGBT community?), undeniably the GOP is also being torn apart by the libertarian wing which also shares some commonalities with the Tea Partiers and theyre going to clash with the establishment Republicans too.
The fight within the GOP is a simple one. Theyve all but abdicated the White House because they refuse to moderate their rhetoric, and they refuse to come to grips with the changing demographics and moods of the country. This isnt anything new, and in fact during the Civil Rights movement, it was the Democratic Party that had to do a lot of soul searching and distance themselves from their racist, southern, segregationist colleagues. The sea change our country is currently going through has put their ideology on trial lately, and between austerity being debunked, Trickle Down being shown to not work at all, and the changing social mores that are putting the Republicans further behind the times, we can only expect to see more of the infighting and political cannibalism that makes watching politics in America fun.
haha, REALITY folks...RIP GOP

July: 988,000 'Discouraged' Americans Concluded There Were No Jobs for Them
August 2, 2013 - 9:23 AM
There were 988,000 discouraged workers in the United States in July, an increase of 136,000 from July 2012, according to data released today the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
Discouraged workers are persons not currently looking for work because they believe no jobs are available for them, the BLS explains.
While the overall unemployment rate declined to the lowest rate since December 2008 at 7.4 percent, those not in the labor force remains near an all-time high at 89,957,000. The previous high was 89,967,000 in March of this year.
The number of Americans who dropped out of the labor force was 240,000 in July 78,000 more than the162,000 jobs added in the month.
The BLS labeled people who are unemployed and no longer looking for work as not in the labor force, including people who have retired on schedule, taken early retirement, or simply given up looking for work.
Also, 2.4 million Americans were marginally attached to the labor force, which means they are not working but wanted and were available for work, and had looked for a job sometime in the prior 12 months

Boehner Tweets Link Showing Obamacare Works
After Voting to Repeal It for the 40th Time
While Republicans are rarely known for making a whole lot of sense, a tweet I saw from House Speaker John Boehner yesterday really takes the cake. In an apparent attempt to claim that the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, will raise health care premiums for Ohioans by 41%, Boehner actually tweeted a link to a story that shows premiums will go down for most people in the state.
Sure, in the story Boehner linked, the top paragraph of the article reads:
Ohio insurance regulators Thursday released rates for health insurance to be sold on the new state marketplace and said premiums for individuals will rise an average of 41 percent compared with 2013 rates.
Good news for Boehner and his fellow Republicans, right?
That is until you read all the way down to thethird paragraph:
But the average 2014 premium of $332.58 a month for individuals, unveiled by Ohio Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, masks the fact that for many individuals, premiums and out-of-pocket medical expenses will go down.
In fact, the article goes into some great detail on the many benefits of Obamacare. It claims about 80 to 90 percent of people who, according to the non-partisan CBO, use the state exchanges will qualify for federal subsidies to reduce or eliminate costs.
The article also goes on to tell how the 41% figure was calculated, essentially saying that specific health care coverages and plans were picked to artificially create a much lower 2013 average premium expense. For example, the individuals they used for the 41% figure were taken from a much healthier pool of people than the average population. Of course, healthier people usually pay less for health care.
Now the article does allude to one group of people which might see their premiums increaseyoung, healthy individuals who buy their own coverage.
But, thats of course before you factor in subsidies that will offset some of the cost. Older, pre-Medicare individuals will most likely see lower premiums.
The article also states that because of the requirements the Affordable Care Act establishes, most citizens will have access to a wider range of health care services.
Basically, what Boehner and his fellow Obamacare opponents often do is quote prices for premiums before any subsidies are taken off. But in this 41% number, they not only used costs before federal subsidies, they skewed the pool of data for 2013 to reflect a much lower premium costs than you see with the general population.
Something this article clearly points out.
So, in Boehners rush to bash the Affordable Care Act on his Twitter account, apparently he either didnt read the articleor didnt make it past the first paragraph.
Because what he ended up doing was tweeting a link to a story which actually shows Obamacare will help most citizens living in Ohio, and Americans in general.
I would encourage everyone to please head over to Boehners website and send him a big thank you for tweeting a story that actually shows Obamacare will help not just most of the people of Ohiobut most of the country as well.
But email him soon, Im sure hes already preparing for the House to vote for the 41st time to repeal the health care law as soon as they return from their 5 week summer vacation.

I totally disagree. Having different views and opinions gives no one the right to call people names and belittle. I believe the majority of conservatives on this thread are "driven" by our love of this country and what we believe is happening to it. You are very narrow-minded to believe otherwise.
I was also taught not to be a racist or bigot and have practiced those teachings throughout my life and career. I am also a retired government employee and was also a political appointee for a portion of my career.
I also see the glass half full so it doesn't "suck" at all. I firmly believe that as Americans we can turn this country around. We just have different beliefs on how that should be done.
Just because we have different views and opinions does not mean we are "glued" to anything. I don't have much tolerance for people who make assumptions about others with very little knowledge of their "true" activities.
I am a registered Republican who cares very much for people and especially those less fortunate. Inequality has actually increased each year under Obama. Median incomes have decreased and the rich, including corporations, have gotten richer.
The difference between you and I is I don't mind that you have opinions and views different from me. I don't understand them, but I accept that you do. You SEEM totally intolerant of other views and opinions and are often malicious in your comments. That is the definition of a bigot. IF the shoe fits ......

Real Unemployment Rate: 11.3%
Gallup Finds Unemployment Rises For Fourth Week In A Row, Cautions On BLS Data
Gallup, which unlike the BLS, does not fudge, Birth/Die, or seasonally adjust its data, has just released its most recent (un)employment data. And it's not pretty: for all those hoping that the Labor Participation Rate fudge that managed to stun the world a few weeks ago with a major drop in the November jobless rate, don't hold your breath. Gallup which constantly pools 30,000 people on a weekly basis, has found that for the past 4 weeks, both underemployment and unemployment have risen for 4 weeks in a row. And while the number of US workers "working part time and wanting full-time work" one of the traditional short cuts to boosting US jobs has risen to almost a 2 year high, it is the Job Creation Index in December which plunged in the last week, confirming that the Initial Claims data out of the BLS has been spurious and is likely to revert back over 400k on short notice.

Obama: Women can make world more peaceful
Two days after ending the war in Iraq, President Obama on Monday issued a national action plan aimed at giving women a bigger role in resolving conflicts around the world.
Deadly conflicts can be more effectively avoided, and peace can be best forged and sustained when women become equal partners in all aspects of peace-building and conflict prevention, the White House said in a 26-page document.
The executive order <<--<<<
directs the Defense and State departments and the U.S. Agency for International Development to accelerate, institutionalize, and better coordinate our efforts to advance womens inclusion in peace negotiations, peace-building activities, and conflict prevention. The White House said the first report on these efforts will be due in 2015.
How many women have started wars?

Rand Paul Mocks Hurricane Sandy Victims, Eliminates Any Chance at a Presidential Bid
There are inappropriate statements, there are disgusting statementsand then theres what Kentucky Senator Rand Paul said while responding to New Jersey Governor Chris Christies comments about Pauls dangerous brand of libertarianism.
A few days ago Governor Christie made comments attacking Pauls brand of libertarianism. Christie called it dangerous, and challenged Pauls positions on our national securityessentially calling his positions concerning how our nation battles terrorism naive and ignorant
Well, Paul decided to respond.
While speaking at a fundraiser in Tennessee, Paul said about Christie and New York Representative Peter King,Theyre precisely the same people who are unwilling to cut the spending, and their Gimme, gimme, gimmegive me all my Sandy money now. Those are the people who are bankrupting the government and not letting enough money be left over for national defense.
Apparently to Rand Paul, people whove lost their homes and have had their lives destroyed by a massive natural disaster are just people who want the government to,gimme, gimme, gimmegive them all their Sandy money. To Paul, they are a big part of the reason why were not leaving enough money for our national defense.
Excuse me? Our defense budget dwarfs every other nation on earth. In fact, our defense budget is bigger than that of the next 13 nationscombined.
Adequate funding is definitely not an issue when it comes to our national defense.
#113214 Aug 3, 2013
But even beyond his apparent ignorance as it pertains to just how much we spend on national defense, these comments by Paul are absolutely reprehensible.
Hurricane Sandy destroyed homes and ruined lives. For many who were impacted by the storm, the funding they received from our government was the difference between their children eating or starving, between shelter and homelessnessbetween life and death.
Yet Rand Paul has the nerve to mock those Americans who asked for help following this storm. He had the audacity to try and claim that our bloated national defense budget lacks funding because we were too busy spending moneyhelping Americans.
If some kind of natural disaster devastated the citizens of Kentucky, I wonder just how fast this pompous ass (excuse my language) would be calling President Obama for expedited help from the government.
But like with most Republicans, when its money they want or needthen thats not wasteful spending. Its vital for the health of Americansand of course their political career next time theyre up for re-election.
The good news, however, for sane Republicans (yes, Im convinced they do still exist) and of course Democratsthese comments all but eliminate Rand Paul from having any chance at ever becoming President.
Hes already had enough controversy surrounding him with how he once insinuated that the Civil Rights Act is unconstitutional, and hes proven over and over again how he subscribes to the most radical of right-wing ideologies. But mocking victims of a natural disaster a borderline national disaster is a line you simply cannot cross if you ever want to stand any realistic chance at becoming President.
Now while Im sure there are still millions of his followers who would vote for him no matter what, those people dont create Presidents. If they did, his dad Ron Paul would have been President a long time ago. But as it stands, Ron Paul couldnt even beat Mitt Romney for the Republican Presidential nomination. Everybody remembers Romney, right? Possibly the worst Presidential candidate in the last 30 years. Yeah, Ron Paul couldnt even beat him, and quite honestly didnt even come close to beating him for the nomination.
However, mocking victims of a tragedy to simply try and take a cheap shot at a probable opponent for the 2016 Republican Presidential nominationthats something the vast majority of Americans simply will not tolerate, forgive or forget.
And thats exactly what Rand Paul did.
