WHERE____ WAS______ THE_____ MEDIA?!

Pennsylvania Ave. was blocked half-hour by anti-amnesty/pro-jobs march sponsored by BALA:
Black American Leadership Alliance.

The Black American Leadership Alliance hosted a march through Washington D.C. on Monday, protesting the Senate-passed amnesty bill, S.744. Breitbart.com provided live webcasting of the event and estimated around 3,000 people attended. They heard nearly four hours of speeches by Black Alliance leaders and others, including Senators Jeff Sessions and Ted Cruz and Representatives Steve King and Mo Brooks.

The march and rally focused on how amnesty and high immigration levels hurts low-skilled American workers and their wages.

Former Congressman Allen West also spoke at the rally, saying he wished Black Americans followed the immigration bill as closely as they've followed the Trayvon Martin trial in his home state of Florida.

"But now we have a Senate, we have a president, up here on Capitol Hill, that think it's more important to reform people who came here illegally than it is to strengthen the inner cities and strengthen the black community," West said.

Dear Members of Congress,

"We, the undersigned members of the Black American Leadership Alliance respectfully address this letter to Members of the Senate Gang of Eight........"

Mitch McConnell Allies Allegedly Threatened Matt Bevin Over Primary Challenge: Report

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) campaign supporters reportedly attempted to coerce Matt Bevin (R) into not mounting a primary challenge against the senator, the National Review reported Tuesday.

According to the report, McConnell allies pressed Bevin to stay out of the 2014 race, allegedly offering the Kentucky businessman "political prizes" if he agreed to not run.

“Mitch McConnell’s people reached out to Matt for several months through all different avenues trying to convince him not to run,” the adviser close to Bevin tells National Review Online.“They can pretend like they’re not afraid, they can call him a nuisance, but they were desperate not to have him. Because they are scared.”

“First they tried to threaten him,” the source added,“and then they tried to dangle shiny political prizes.”

McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton dismissed the claim, saying that “Nobody from the McConnell campaign or office has ever had a conversation with Matt Bevin about this campaign.”

Team McConnell's alleged threats apparently did little to dissuade Bevin. The tea party-backed businessman, who has publicly mulled a bid for months, is set to announce his Senate candidacy on Wednesday during a tour of the Bluegrass State.

While his candidacy is not yet official, Bevin's campaign has already gone on offense against an early set of attacks from McConnell's team.

“The 2014 U.S. Senate race has barely begun and already it’s the same old Mitch McConnell with nothing but smear tactics and misleading the public about his opponents,” Bevin's camp said in a Tuesday release in response to Benton's claim that the senator's campaign has an "opposition research book [on Bevin] as thick as a college textbook."

On the Democratic side, Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes announced her Senate candidacy earlier this month.

While McConnell's campaign characterized Bevin as "nothing more than a nuisance," others said the tea partier poses a credible threat to the senator.

"Bevin is going to be more than a pesky distraction to Sen. McConnell," University of Louisville political scientist Laurie Rhodebeck told the Associated Press. "[McConnell is] going to have to spend money and time on the primary, and it's clear he'd much rather be attacking Grimes right now."

Mitch McConnell hosts Senate tea party caucus

As lawmakers of all stripes celebrated legendary dealmaking Republican Sen. Bob Dole’s 90th birthday in the Capitol’s Statuary Hall, a decidedly less compromising group huddled just a few paces away.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell played host to the Tea Party caucus on Tuesday, embracing a movement that for years the Washington Republican establishment was hesitant to warm up to. That seemed to change on Tuesday, as even Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was dragged into the gathering by activists.

A House Democrat called out one of Capitol Hill’s biggest immigration hardliners for what he called “inflammatory” and “offensive” comments about so-called DREAMers.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) was quoted in an interview with the conservative news site Newsmax that a wide swath of immigrants who were brought into the United States illegally as children were smuggling drugs into the country.

“Some of them are valedictorians, and their parents brought them in,” King said in the interview.“It wasn’t their fault. It’s true in some cases, but they aren’t all valedictorians. They weren’t all brought in by their parents.”

“For everyone who’s a valedictorian, there’s another 100 out there that weigh 130 pounds and they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they’re hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert,” King added.“Those people would be legalized with the same act.”

During Tuesday’s House hearing on immigrant children who are undocumented, Rep. Joe Garcia (D-Fla.) took offense at King’s remarks.

“When members of this committee – when members of this House – use inflammatory language, use offensive language, it does not help the progress,” Garcia said. The freshman Democrat read King’s comments out loud, and noted that he meets several valedictorians in his southern Florida district who are undocumented.

Garcia added that comments such as King’s are “beneath the dignity of this body and this country.”

When King took the microphone for his opening remarks – immediately after Garcia – he declined to respond.

House Republican budget strategy collapsing

Like an army that’s outrun its supply line, the Republican budget strategy in Congress shows almost daily signs of coming apart.

The central premise, as sold by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, was that Washington could wipe out deficits in 10 years and protect defense spending, all while embracing the lower appropriations caps dictated by sequestration.
Four months later, it’s proving to be a bridge too far.

Fox News' aging audience could be a big problem

While it still has the most viewers in cable news, they're getting older than the demographic most advertisers target.

Fox News ended the second quarter of 2013 in a familiar place -- ranked No. 1 among cable news viewers for the 46th quarter in a row.

But that dominance was accompanied by an alarming demographic shift for the 21st Century Fox (FOXA -0.03%) network as thousands of viewers younger than 54 changed the channel.

That may be giving some Fox News executives their own gray hairs. The network's median age has edged above 65 for six of the past eight years, The New York Times' Bill Carter reports. It's impossible to know exactly how old Fox News' audience is, because ratings company Nielsen doesn't provide an exact figure once viewers are older than 65.

At the same time, viewers in the 25-to-54 age group have been dwindling. The network shed 11% of its younger viewers in the second quarter.

That's a bad sign for any network, but it's especially worrying for a news channel, where advertisers buy programs based on the number of viewers who are 25 to 54.(Most entertainment channels use the slightly younger 18-49 demographic as a yardstick.)

"The numbers indicate they haven't been replacing the younger viewers," cable analyst Craig Moffett, who runs Moffett Research, told the Times.

Fox News' aging audience puts it in a rather undistinguished group of cable networks. Only two other channels have hit the over-65 age group: the game-show channel GSN and rural news network RFD.
What's unknown is whether the aging audience will put a dent in Fox News' ability to attract advertisers, but clearly a huge amount of money is at stake. "Median age is important. For some clients, getting old is a concern," Tracey Riener, an executive at ad-buying firm Havas Media, told the Times.

Age matters to advertisers for two reasons. First is the industry's belief that younger people are more open to marketing messages and more likely to change brands if a catchy commercial gets their attention. Second, certain advertisers target their messages for specific age groups, such as Unilever's (UL -0.62%) Axe brand of deodorants, which aim at young men (and so it's unlikely to buy ad time on Fox News).

Fox News may be trying to lure new, younger viewers with some programming shifts, tapping Megyn Kelly, 42, for a prime-time role and hiring Elisabeth Hasselbeck, 36, for "Fox and Friends." Both are younger than Fox News' top hosts, such as Bill O'Reilly, who is 63, and Sean Hannity, 51.
Executives at Fox News are likely looking for the new blood to help revitalize their viewership. After all, it's not a good business practice if your audience is at risk of dying out.

http://money.msn.com/now/post--fox-news-aging ...

Just too funny. Now we know why they are #1. Even Nielsen doesn't track 65 and over. Imagine that. They watch TV more than anyone so I find that hard to believe. And Elizabeth Hasslebeck, the most hated frightwinger of The View. haha What about "I can see Russia from my House" quitter Palin? lol

Grasping for Dignity in the Era of the American Police State
by John Whitehead on July 16, 2013

In a nutshell, what Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, writing for the majority, concluded was that it is impractical—“unworkable” was the phrase used—to expect overworked jail officials to have to take the time to distinguish between harmless individuals guilty of nothing more than driving without a seatbelt and those who pose a true threat and may be reasonably suspected of carrying drugs or weapons. Consequently, any person who is arrested, no matter how minor the alleged criminal act, can now be subjected to a degrading strip search. Examples of minor violations which could now lead to a strip search are many and include “violating a leash law, driving without a license and failing to pay child support.”

The key word there is "could" - not "will". Besides, I haven't heard of anyone being arrested for violating a leash law lately, have you? If somebody's driving without a license or not paying child support, they deserve to be arrested, and if a strip search is part of the process, well, so be it. Like the old saying goes, "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime."

The economy has now added twice as many jobs since Obama took office than it did in his predecessor’s entire eight years in office.

Stockholders have grown wealthier; the S&P 500 has gained 110 percent

Obama has now traveled to 38 countries, visiting some more than once. Bush visited 75.

Domestic oil production continues to soar, up 46 percent. Oil imports have plunged by 38 percent. But the U.S. still depends on foreign sources for more than a third of what it consumes.

Wind and solar power have increased 176 percent. But those sources still make up just 3.8 percent of U.S. electric generation. Coal still accounts for the biggest share: nearly 39 percent.

Taken from various credible news sources.(Not sites like Faux)
