Oh lQQkie, the anonyMOUTH is still confused what country it's in. Too funny:

Obama “completely conquers” Israel

“He’s completely conquered us,” said Israel’s new cabinet secretary ahead of the second state dinner in Obama’s honor in as many nights.“It’s been a wonderful trip.”

Many Israelis compared the president to a rock star. One boy who met him at a reception at the home of President Shimon Peres was filmed later telling friends,“He’s really tall. He’s handsome.” Jerusalemites seemed dazed by the proximity to such glamour.

Obama chose as the centerpiece of his visit one of the most extensive and probing presidential statements ever made on the nature of Israeli-American ties and on the possibilities, both hopeful and dire, that await Israel in its future.

The 45-minute speech was interrupted more than 15 times by a cheering audience made up of university students who had won their place in the convention center hall through raffles.

It was that message, that to secure its own future Israel has no choice but to pursue peace, and his exhortation to youth to lead their own politicians toward action that left the deepest impression.
Ahmad Tibi, an Israeli-Arab member of parliament, was moved to say on Israel Radio,“Honestly, when he discussed in detail the mosaic of Arab life under occupation — he is the first American president to do this. He described the suffering of Palestinians under Israeli rule. But there was nothing more moving for me than hearing the applause of those students every time Obama said,‘you must end occupation.’”

Just like here, the young people LOVED him:

Israeli Students Reflect on Obama’s

SpeechPresident Obama gave a fervent address to students from universities in Israel on Thursday during his first presidential trip to the country. Some of the students shared their views of the speech with The Times.

I came with no expectations. I thought we were going to hear the same old song, only this time from an excellent rhetorician. I wasn't entirely wrong, but I was definitely in for a big surprise. Instead of speaking as usual about the Israeli and Palestinian governments and what the leaders on both sides should or should not do, President Obama talked to me. He talked to my friends beside me. He talked to the young, motivated Middle Eastern students who wish to finish school, find a good job and start a family. It doesn't matter where these students are from, Ramallah or Tel Aviv. At the end of the day, we all want the same basic thing — to live our lives in peace and to prosper.

President Obama told us that the next chapter of our story as a nation is in our hands. "You — the young people of Israel — must now claim the future," he pleaded. He is right. Now, with a new Israeli government and with a strong American administration, more supportive than ever, we have to make the change. I call on my leaders: use this window of opportunity that is filled with renewed hope in the light of this inspiring speech. Listen to your people, to the young generation. Help us write a better future.

Senate backs Keystone Pipeline in bipartisan vote

The Senate voted 62 to 37 Friday in favor of constructing the Keystone XL pipeline, the controversial project that would transport heavy crude oil from Hardisty, Alberta, to Gulf Coast’s refineries.

The bipartisan amendment to the Senate budget resolution, authored by Sens. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Max Baucus (D-Mont.), has no binding authority. But it shows the significant support the proposal enjoys on Capitol Hill, despite the fact that opponents argue its construction will accelerate global warming and could cause harmful oil spills on ecologically-sensitive habitat.

The 17 Democrats who voted yes included every single possibly vulnerable incumbent facing reelection next year, from 34-year veteran Baucus to first-term Sen. Mark Begich (Alaska).

Perhaps more importantly, Sen. Michael Bennet (Colo.), who chairs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, voted for the resolution. Bennet is not up for re-election until 2016, but his post requires him to raise money from the wealthy liberal community that is highly opposed to the pipeline.

Additionally, a crop of Democrats who survived difficult reelections in 2012 — Sens. Bob Casey (Pa.), Joe Donnelly (Ind.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.), Bill Nelson (Fla.) and Jon Tester (Mont.)— all supported the GOP Keystone amendment.

“Budgets are about priorities and right now our number one priority needs to be creating jobs,” Baucus said in a statement.“Approving the Keystone Pipeline is the perfect opportunity to put Americans to work right now. American workers cannot afford to wait any longer for Keystone jobs, and there is absolutely no excuse for further delay.”

It is unclear how much the vote will influence President Obama, whose administration is still considering TransCanada’s permit application to cross the Canada-U.S. border. The State Department recently issued a draft environmental impact statement suggesting the oil sands would get developed even if Obama vetoed the permit, but environmentalists have challenged that analysis.

The department will have to finalize that assessment, and then determine whether the project serves the U.S. national interest, before the administration makes a final decision.

“Big Oil may have bought themselves this meaningless vote, but the decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline remains where it’s been all along – with Secretary Kerry and President Obama,” said League of Conservation Voters president Gene Karpinski in a statement.“The Keystone XL tar sands pipeline is all risk and no reward, risking massive oil spills on American waterways so this company can ship oil to places like China.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-poli...

Float a few jobs, most would be foreign workers of the company, assault the environment, send oil to China. Yeah, right. I hope the President stands his ground. Let them tear up their own country to get oil to CHINA. Dumbass repukes, just don't get it. I am glad our President does and the people in those states.

Ben Carson: Latest Republican Savior!

Remember way back to when Ted Cruz was the next savior of the Republican Party? That was, what, last week, right? And before that it was Marco Rubio, or Paul Ryan, or Bobby Jindal … and before that, before Sandy, it was going to be Chris Christie. And it’s not so long ago that Herman Cain was the next big thing. Or Michele Bachmann. Or, heaven help us, Newt Gingrich. And there’s always the Sage of Wasilla herself. That’s a lot of saviors over four years.

At any rate, forget all that: the new fantasy candidate for conservatives is Dr. Benjamin Carson, a neonatal surgeon, with no political experience, who achieved the status of dream presidential nominee by virtue of giving a good speech at the conservative conference CPAC last week. By late Thursday afternoon, he was explaining to CNN’s Jake Tapper the circumstances under which he’d consider a bid for the White House in 2016.

What does it say about a party that it would hear a single speech by a non-politician and start fantasizing about him as its next presidential candidate?

Beyond the particular electoral context, it’s yet another example of how the Republican Party, and conservatives in general, currently have an attraction to symbolism over substance, which is part of why they aren’t very good at governing. And that, even more than demographic changes or specific problems with issues, is the biggest problem facing conservatives.

After all, the biggest problem for Republicans right now is still the fact of the George W. Bush presidency: the disastrous war in Iraq, the Great Recession, and drowning the odd city or two, just for starters. And indeed a large part of why the Bush presidency went so wrong had to do with his inadequate preparation for the job. With just a bit over one term as the governor of a state with a weak-governor system, and with practically no other political experience at all, Bush just wasn’t able to handle the job. While it’s possible that new information unveiled in the future might change these conclusions, from what we know he was easily manipulated by those around him, and often passive and reactive when he should have been challenging his own people.

So while it’s almost certain that Republicans will move on from their latest flavor-of-the-month (and for all I know Carson might make a perfectly fine candidate for other office), the odds are good that they’ll continue to undervalue demonstrated political expertise, especially governing expertise, and overvalue symbolic virtues in their presidential candidates. Which increases the chances that when they do win the White House, we may be in for another failed presidency.

Miss Israel: Obama ‘world-class hunk’

President Barack Obama has earned a new title: world-class hunk.

That was the assessment of Miss Israel, the 21-year-old Ethiopian immigrant Titi Aynaw who met Obama on Thursday.

“He’s an exciting man, a world-class hunk, charming and an extraordinary gentleman,” she told the Israeli publication Yediot Aharonot.

Aynaw and Obama were introduced by Israeli President Shimon Peres during the state dinner that occurred on Obama’s first presidential trip to Israel, according to Israeli news accounts.
“You are very beautiful,” Obama told her, according to the report. He added,“And Michelle would have been very happy to be as tall as you are.”

When asked in an interview in Israel whether she was worried that Michelle Obama would be “jealous” when the president met Miss Israel, the beauty queen dismissed the question.

“No, I am not worried,” she said with a laugh.“She is a beautiful woman and she looks like a model, really… I don’t think she will be jealous.”
