Memo to GOP: You Can’t Put Lipstick on an Elephant
by Robert Shrum Mar 22, 2013 4:45 AM EDT
Republicans’ trumpeted makeover plan has only been out a few days, but it’s already crumbling. Bob Shrum on how Paul Ryan and anti-gay zealots are shooting their party in the foot.
The Republican Nation Committee’s postmortem on 2012 is hardly a guarantee that the party will come back to electoral life in 2014, or even 2016.
And to find out why, look no further than Paul Ryan.
This is where Paul Ryan comes in. And the toxicity of his presence and his positions isn’t confined to Hispanics. The party’s disappointing 2012 vice presidential nominee, squashed by Joe Biden in their debate, has just forced Republicans in the House to vote for the budget plan Americans repudiated last November. It would voucherize Medicare, repeal Obamacare, shred Medicaid, starve education, medical research, the list goes on to give, you guessed it, tax breaks to the wealthy. It would smash federal spending—outside of Social Security and interest on the national debt—down to the lowest level since 1948.
House Republican Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers, who feels he has to drink the tea of the Ryan budget, nonetheless complains that:“There are a lot of things we are not happy with… It cuts too much spending.”
And Rogers is not alone. There are a lot of things voters will be happy with in the Ryan budget—and a GOP that’s in a hole but can’t stop digging. The country has already caught on to the party’s calculation that it can trick people by renovating its style while recycling the same old ideas. Ryan himself, according to the latest Rasmussen poll—hardly a poll skewed against Republicans—has seen his approval rating plummet to 35 percent, down from 50 percent last August. And a new CNN survey reports that two thirds of Americans believe the GOP “favors the rich” and nearly half think it’s “too extreme.” The survey’s director says:“Unfavorable views [of the party] extend into nearly … every major demographic.”
Not long before the Ryan budget sailed through the House on a nearly lockstep Republican vote—only 10 Republican stepped back from the political abyss—one freshman member comforted himself with the notion that “it’s pretend
… We know it’s dead on arrival in the Senate.” But it will be very much alive as a defining campaign issue in 2014, and unless the GOP turns from its rigid ideology, in 2016 too. And so far, what’s plainly and decidedly dead, for all the Beltway blather about it, is the Republican makeover.
The Republican Nation Committee’s postmortem on 2012 is hardly a guarantee that the party will come back to electoral life in 2014, or even 2016. haha
GOP that’s in a hole but can’t stop digging...and digging and digging. Too funny.

Shocker: Hillary crushes Rubio and Bush in Florida, annihilates Perry in Texas
The polls show that Clinton sure can carry Texas and sure would win a landslide in Florida!
Here's the deal with the recent Florida and Texas polls. In Florida voters know Clinton and they know Bush and Rubio very well. It is predictive that Clinton so powerfully obliterates two Republicans Floridians know so well. In Texas voters know Clinton and Perry very well. It is informative that Clinton obliterates the Texas Republican that Texas voters know the best, and would also defeat other GOP hopefuls in recent polling.
Isn't it ironic that the Democrats with the biggest balls are women named Hillary, Nancy and Elizabeth while the Republicans act more like Marie Antoinette than Ronald Reagan?
Things can always change, but it might be time for Democrats to nominate Hillary Clinton by acclamation.
Meanwhile, Republicans in Washington battle to cut Medicare and Social Security and prepare a filibuster against consumer protection to support those who financially cheat workers, women, active-duty troops, military families, Hispanics, small business, students, seniors, blacks and most consumers throughout Texas, Florida and America.

Run, Ashley! Run!
Sean Hannity has a message for Hollywood starlet-turned-would-be senatorial candidate
Bill Clinton Encourages Both Judd and Challenger in Possible Senate Bid
(ABC News)-- Former President Bill Clinton has spoken to both Ashley Judd and Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes about the U.S. Senate race in Kentucky, encouraging them both to take a hard look at the race.
ABC News has learned that Clinton encouraged Judd to enter the race and promised he would help her, according to several Kentucky political sources. That conversation happened sometime between the November election and President Barack Obama's second inauguration.
Earlier this month Clinton met with Grimes, who is also weighing a bid, after he spoke at an event for former Kentucky Sen. Wendell Ford in Owensboro, Ky., according to multiple political sources in the state. Clinton encouraged Grimes to consider taking on McConnell, adding as he did with Judd that he would support her. The conversation was described as "candid" and "frank" with Clinton saying "all options are available" to the 34-year-old secretary of state and that she has "unlimited potential." He did add that "bigger is always better," meaning that the Senate seat would be a better choice than running for the U.S. House in the sixth district or waging a gubernatorial bid in 2015. Both are options Grimes is said to be considering.
The same sources stressed that despite the time gap, Clinton wasn't choosing Grimes over Judd or changing allegiances, but that he expressed encouragement to both, believing it's unlikely that both would enter the race.
Although it is possible the two could be in the primary against each other.
News of Clinton's meeting with Grimes was first reported by Politico.
Matt McKenna, a spokesman for Clinton said, "President Clinton fully intends to support the Democratic nominee in this race."
The Clintons are longtime friends and allies of Grimes's father, Jerry Lundergan, a former state party chairman, and Grimes herself who became secretary of state in 2011 after beating her primary challenger who was backed by Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear. Allies of hers say she is considering this race, but has not made a decision. Jerry Lundergan was a strong supporter of Bill Clinton, but also of Hillary Clinton's presidential bid in 2008, and they remain close.
However, the Clintons are also close to Judd, who publicly backed Hillary Clinton over then Senator Obama in 2008 and even campaigned with Bill Clinton on behalf of Hillary in March 2008. Just days before the Texas primary, Clinton and Judd campaigned together standing in the back of a pickup truck at a private airport hangar in Abilene, Texas. She entertained the crowd, while Clinton was hours late due to a lightning storm.
Judd backers agree that while Grimes doesn't have any political baggage, she doesn't have the fundraising ability or star power to beat McConnell.
"Everybody wants to get him," Emmon said of McConnell. "If Grimes get this race, I think we get McConnell."
Emmon added that he is "not anti-Ashley Judd."
"We are all proud of Ashley Judd, a native daughter, and her success in the entertainment industry as well as her mother and sister," Emmons said. "But, let's get real about the stakes here. If something makes us lose additional seats [in the statehouse], we become a right-to-work state. We don't want that to happen."
McConnell is seen as the most vulnerable he has ever been. State polls show his popularity low and he has already run ads reaching out to women in the state.

Detroit’s former mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, son of former congresswoman and Congressional Black Caucus member Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick, is now in jail awaiting sentencing after being convicted on 24 counts for running a criminal enterprise out of the mayor’s office.
The point is that we need to discern a rule of thumb here: the more that human lives are governed by compulsion and entitlement rather than freedom, choice and personal responsibility, the more that outcomes are uniformly undesirable.

You got that right, 2016 and maybe history for awhile. It will take a long time for them to win an election as more and more people turn away from their lunatic logic taking the country back...like 100 years. They will be too busy fighting the new GOP Teabaggers while the Dems just keep winning elections. Doesn't get any better than that. Pure entertainment watching them eat their own and listening to interchangeable names and location topix trolls defend them. All while babbling about nonsense to distract those who know the truth. They sure are a bunch of lunatics. Proven here everyday and I am sure all the countless topix threads, facebook GOP haters, and lonely chat rooms they stalk. Great entertainment for the rest of us. lol
