A draft report from the US Congress shows that Chinese cyberwarfare is a growing issue that leaves the United States vulnerable in a very serious way. Not only must the US face the fact that it is beholden to Chinese manufacturing and the growing might of Chinese consumers, but it must now also admit that its time as the world’s only cyber superpower may be drawing to an end.

The draft report, which was obtained by Bloomberg, contains some very interesting information. The key quote in the report is “Chinese penetrations of defense systems threaten the U.S. military’s readiness and ability to operate.” A Northrop Grumman report from March has a similar conclusion about the ability of China to disrupt the US military if there was a conflict over Taiwan. This growing evidence is both scary and incredibly fascinating.

The vast majority of the attacks over the last year have been “straightforward” zero-day exploits. The sheer amount of man power available to the Chinese appears to be the issue at hand. Even if most of the attempts at infiltrating security networks fail, the occasional breakthrough is enough to potentially severely compromise the US. While most of the detected attacks are aimed at gathering information (espionage), this is a clear indication that China cannot be ignored. While its total number of security experts is small, the report indicates that the Chinese military’s leadership is developing ways to work smarter and harder. Think how powerful these “cyber militias” will be when they have both raw numbers and expertise on their side.

This needs to serve as a wake-up call, not just to the US, but for every country with significant national security infrastructure. The Chinese military is continuing to enhance its cyberwarfare branch, and anyone with political and economic relations with China could be in the crosshair. Not only do US security systems need to be reinforced, but our counterintelligence needs better funding and training. We need to take China’s willingness to dedicate massive amounts of manpower to espionage into account when we’re budgeting our defense spending.

he has blamed so many people for his failures that it is now common place for his sheeple to do so,

Maybe you should add another sock to your topix file and head on over to Akron's topix. Most people don't bounce from state to state spreading hate, racism, gloom and doom like you nutjobs. You can start all the topix threads you want to satisfy your faux box propaganda. It won't change anything...he is still a SECOND term PRESIDENT voted in by the majority of AMERICANS. Oh and wait, they still approve of him from the latest polls, minus the faux box shows of course. haha Speaks volumes.

Latest Polls
At least all the polls still show the President's approval rating is still high except of course for the faux box poll. Imagine that. hahaha

Polls show Republicans sinking on key issues

Polls show Obama with a firm lead over Republicans on immigration, gun control and the budget
According to two new polls, most Americans are in favor of President Obama’s approach to key issues like the budget, gun control and immigration.

A USA Today/Pew Research poll released Thursday shows Obama with a strong lead over Republicans in Congress on gun policies (45-39 percent), the budget deficit (45-38 percent), immigration (50-33 percent) and even climate change (47-26 percent
“On many of the issues, President Obama has staked out positions that seem to be closer to the public’s thinking than the positions Republicans have staked out,” said Michael Dimock, director of the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, in a statement on the poll.“The challenge for him is in building the public’s sense of immediacy on some of these issues, particularly on climate change and guns.”

In addition, the poll finds that only 22 percent of Americans even identify themselves as Republicans, almost a record low.

A Bloomberg poll from Wednesday had similar findings, with Obama’s approval ratings reaching a 3-year high at 55 percent, while just 35 percent have a favorable view of Republicans.

From Bloomberg:
Americans by 49 percent to 44 percent believe Obama’s proposals for government spending on infrastructure, education and alternative energy are more likely to create jobs than Republican calls to cut spending and taxes to build business confidence and spur employment.

To add to Republican troubles: 43 percent of Americans blame Republicans for what’s wrong in Washington, compared with 34 percent who blame Obama.

Accepting his party's nomination, Governor Bush promised to restore "honor and dignity" to the White House. But as events continue to show, a more accurate - and ironic - mantra for the lawless Bush White House would be "no controlling legal authority."

At the time it was delivered, Bush's acceptance speech at the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia was an arrogant, deceitful broadside against the Clinton/Gore years. But the very words Bush used to tar Al Gore with the blight of the Lewinsky scandal may now constitute the epitaph for the Bush presidency:

"So when I put my hand on the Bible, I will swear to not only uphold the laws of our land, I will swear to uphold the honor and dignity of the office to which I have been elected, so help me God."

That hateful address, of course, was filled with exactly the kind of lies and taunts - the smallness - that came to define George W. Bush.

His false charges about American military readiness ("Not ready for duty, sir!"), his long since abandoned philosophy when it comes to using American force ("the cause must be just, the goal must be clear, and the victory must be overwhelming"), his smearing of Al Gore that foreshadowed his own legacy ("he now leads the party of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, but the only thing he has to offer is fear itself") and his obscene claim to be a "uniter" ("I will not attack a part of this country because I want to lead the whole of it"), all were in keeping with the dark Bush character.

Bush broke all of these promises. But his original sin, from which all other of his crimes and errors flow, is his pledge to usher in new period of higher ethical standards as part of a "responsibility era." Bush, who previously sneered at Gore's "no controlling legal authority" defense of his 1990's Buddhist temple fundraising efforts, raised the ethical bar further that October:

"In my administration, we will ask not only what is legal but what is right. Not just what the lawyers allow, but what the public deserves. In my administration, we'll make it clear there is a controlling legal authority of conscience."

Eights years later and Bush's 2000 standard of "not only what is legal but what was right" is in tatters. Bush's own Justice Department issued a report which concluded that Monica Goodling, the former White House liaison for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, violated federal law and DOJ policy by discriminating against job applicants who weren't faithful Republicans or conservative activists.

And that's just the beginning. Plamegate, the Libby pardon, the Abramoff affair, doctoring scientific reports, the end of habeas corpus, detainee torture, the politically-motivated firings of U.S. attorneys, illegal domestic surveillance, the theory of the unitary executive and the unprecedented assertion of executive privilege all show a President committed to doing neither what is legal nor right. And then, of course, there's Iraq.

How fitting then that Bush's would-be Republican successor John McCain, the man who promised to run a "respectful" campaign, chose to launch a wave of attack ads and character assassination against his Democratic rival.

Americans can't erase the Bush presidency, but they aren’t condemned to repeat it.

I am one of the persons you just made a very good attempt to smear. That seems to be the method now of the one way and sided Democrats.SMEAR THE PEOPLE AND LOOK NO FURTHER FOR THE PRINCIPLES.
Question-are you satisfied with the way Obama is running the Harry Reid and Pelosi Congress?Do you know why they are unable to work out any programs?Do you understand it is a spending problem? Are you aware the sequestration was Obama`s plan? Are you aware this is just a lower increase in spending ,not a cut back from what it was?

From my position, you are correct--we do need to replace every one up there with Tea Party persons!!!Starting at the top and working down!

OK Reality, tell lme how this works:
I know a gal who is married and has one small child. Her husband works running a dozer. They get $367 a month in food stamps or EBT card card as they call it. They both have the ultimate in new cell phones that do everything but dance - I would say the phones are in the $300 range or near to it. But they did buy them themselves from Verizon.
Go figure!
Maybe, this couple didn't know about this free program. I wasn't aware what was going on until I contacted my telephone service and asked them what was this charge....they said it was a gov. mandated fee.

I didn't trust them and with the encouragement from another blogger who was stating what we were paying for in free cell phones....I google it and it was all there for the world to see.

In other words, the telephone company lied.

P.S. In the 70's, I needed emergency help for my two children. I was working full time but was unable to keep up with the debt my husband had left behind and I applied for food stamps, I was turned down due to $15. which I made over the limit. No men were allowed to be a part of the household which there wasn't but.....

today, even men can apply for food stamps or its okay if deadbeat women are living with and supporting a deadbeat man and they both can receive food stamps.

Mercy me, what a scam is going on perpetrated by our gov.

Thanks Jay

Aaron Swartz(deceased) and the Fight for Information Freedom

In the madness of our media-fed consciousness, the greatest threat to an informative news story is time. Given enough time, and the dysfunctional and disinformative way the mainstream media cover news, even the most important and revealing story quickly dies out.

During the brief spasm of mainstream coverage, the most prominent line being circulated was that he was a casualty of the sloppiness, pettiness and bullying of a federal government that went too far in its prosecution of him. The truth is that Aaron Swartz was a target of a deliberately vicious, sadistic government campaign in which the federal government wanted to make his pain an example to the entire progressive techie community. What's more, his death was the outcome of a policy that is a threat to human freedom. That's why we need to keep talking about Aaron Swartz.

Hey R, I just looked at my ATT phone bill, landline. I did not see the word Lifeline, but what I did see was "Federal Universal Service Fee." I'd like to know what that is, for a fact, because any services I get, like inside, outside wiring, call waiting, caller ID or long distance is already listed separately. Interesting wording isn't it? Just call it something they won't understand or pay attention to and here we go!!!!!!
Jay
If you read my other post, I stated you will see on your bill either Lifeline fee or Universal Federal Fee, they are the same. You are being charged by government to pay for someone else receiving a free cell phone with a portion of the bill paid for.

Don't trust the telephone carrier to tell you the truth. I google it because I didn't trust them.

Not are we only taxed to death to pay for deadbeats but we are now paying fees on our bills for their freebies.
