Actual real life Socialist here. Liberals are not Socialists. Liberals are Capitalists. There isn't a single Socialist that supports the Democrats. Democrats are the modern incarnation of the anti-theocratic, and pro-union Republicans from the 50s. Liberalism is a center-right ideology, meaning it isn't a "leftist" idea.

The divide between the GOP and the Dems isn't small government vs. big government. After all, the GOP want a massive military, and want to enforce a theocratic rule. There is remarkably very little difference between the two parties. One supports "trickle down theory", which was discarded many years ago, and the other supports a light form of Statism. Statism, which goes under the term of Social Democracy in Europe, is actually doing fairly well there.

So, before any more drivel goes on here, I'll ask that everyone get a little bit of perspective. Republicans, you are the modern Whig party, and you are slowly going out of existence. Democrats, stop calling yourselves progressives, the only "progressive" thing about you is that you support equal marriage.
