Yep I think they should that way more people would do it and stop reproducing and bringing kids in the world that they can't take care of.

Anytime we can slow some idiot people from having more kids for the government (and me) to support I'm for it. Just because you CAN have kids doesn't mean you should have a s**tload.

Everybody wants the govt. to pay for everything. Who do you think really pays for all this stuff? Taxpayers. This is one of the reasons that the economy and govt. spending got the way it is. Making the taxpayers pay for every lazy ass, stupid, and otherwise trash mistakes. Next thing you know, babies will be sterilized at birth. It's high time people start to take responsibility for their own actions instead of counting on the govt. to do it for them. Wear a rubber, take a pill, be a virgin for longer than thirteen years.

The government can either pay one time for this or pay for eighteen years for all these unplanned, unwanted children. The men can make them and then never support them.It would be much cheaper to snip than populate!

I say YES! It would be cheaper than paying welfare and foodstamps until the child reaches 18! If the person wants fixed then so be it! I wanted fixed after my child was born I was 25 one child and they said NO! It is my choice weather I want more children or not ya know?? I just have one but for a dr to tell me no I may want more and that's been 8 yrs ago, it's MY choice!!! I had private co insurance and it would have paid for it in full IF I could have gotten it done. I still want it done lol

I think it should be, not only paid for, but required for anyone who conceives while on any kind of government assistant. This list would include:Welfare, SSI, Food Stamps, Unemployment, HUD, or any others i have forgot to mention.

I also think that the same should be done for any man who is more than 3 months late on any child support or is on any of the aforementioned programs.

Parents under the age of 18 should be made to work after school(which is also a requirement) to help subsidize a minimum of 50% of the cost. Their parents should be responsible for the other 50%(if the child is no longer at home). If the child is still at home, the state should let them sort it out.

Last but not least. When someone on any of the aforementioned programs gives birth, with the exception of unemployment(because a day may come when it is just temporary again), the child should be placed in temporary foster care. The parents should be able to get the child back if they manage to become self sufficient with in a year of birth.

This would not only cut taxpayer cost, it should also stop this cycle of: welfare parents have welfare children who become welfare parents.... and so forth.

I realize that this seems extremely socialist, however, for this nation to stop the road to socialism that we have been on, we have to stop this cycle of dependency.

Some of you mentioned we support their kids until their 18. You forgot to mention they are likely trying to qualify for a disability (just because you have ADD that doesn't mean you can't do something productive), or better yet having their own bunch of children that they don't see after. Parenting classes, DRUG TESTS, and general life skills classes (how to buy healthy food, not little Debbie snack cakes, to help provide nutritious meals for your lazy bunch) should all be tied to any government assistance.

What if your parents had thought like that.you wouldn't be here right now.If you don't want them use condoms until you can afford it or want one.Or just stop dropping your pants for just anyone. And start teaching your kids to wait until marriage and teach them to use protection.

Luckily my parents were able to provide for me and my brother without any assistance and were great parents. If everybody was intelligent enough and used the common sense to do what you suggest, that would be great. Unfortunately too many people don't bother with birth control and don't view children as the responsibility that they should.

That's because this is generational...as in to say this a horrible family cycle. The cycle of motherhood is unlike the rest of the country's norm, as we have a high rate of young (inadequate) mothers. It's "great" and "glamorous" around here to be carting around your baby in the cutest clothes and biggest bows on their heads.

It's a free country you control your uterus and I'll control mine.
I was raised on welfare and I had my first child in my twenties then I had Alot more. I was ignorant and uneducated but my mother instinct kicked in quick I got a job my husband went to college and we raise none of our kids on welfare. I love my kids and hopefully they will take care of me when I get old because I have no other family.

Don't try and regulate the human body it's rediculous

As much money as the government wastes on pork barrel spending, sending money over seas, space programs and so on, they should pretty much pay for anything American citizens need.

I don't know who started this topic but the government already pays for both they just don't demand you or make you and they shouldn't but they will pay for it if you qualify and not by income based necessarily

The original poster never mentioned forcing people to do it, it wad just a question of whether the goverent should pay for it. Whether it should be mandatory is a whole other issue...I'm just saying if it was free, maybe more people would do it rather than use half-ass birth control attempts and have kids they don't necessarily want or cant properly care for.
