Laura runs it, but Stiffy owns it, I think. I don't know how well their business will be due to the reputation they have.

Gee I'm scared. Whatever the circumstance, Stiffy owns the building and he DOES have a reputation...and not a good one. facts are facts people. Deal with it. And for the record...I see nothing that the "competition" or anyone else has to fear from this bunch. Reputations proceed people. I was merely stating an option to a question (which thank you for correcting me on the "who owns the business" part) and stating my opinion, which I am entitled to. You people act like you have nothing better to do than to sit here and try to make yourselves feel better by putting everyone else down. No wonder 20\20 eats up the chance to do specials about the people of Appalachia (and why the people here have such a reputation themselves for being ignorant). You act ignorant, therefore it makes the rest of the world think you are ignorant. Hmmmmmmmm. At least Paradise Tan's response was not all trying to be up-in-your-face childishness like Just Wondering's.

He does NOT own the building! Geee, where do you get your info. Check the court house records. My husband and I own the whole stripmall behind Walgreens. I'm well aware of his rep. and could care less. I only have to answer for me. I run a clean, honest establishment which is open to the public. You are free to come by and tan anytime.

Thanks, but no thanks. Gees what is the big deal...why do you get so offended when someone mistakenly says something? If you couldn't care less then you shouldn't get so out of sorts. My bad about him owning the building. You say "honest" establishment, but in that other post you dog everyone that could pose a threat to your establishment. A little friendly competition is good for people\business! But what you did just isn't good business (or humanity for that matter) in my opinion. So I will not be visiting your establishment. I am a business owner myself (although nothing related to tanning...and I say that for clarification so that "just wondering" won't get the wrong impression and accuse me of being or knowing the "competition") and think that your words will end up being your downfall. Especially seeing as how anyone with any knowledge at all about tanning can see that a lot of what you said is FALSE info (such as the "activation" of lotions? What is THAT about?) And if you re-read my first post...I said "Stiffy" owns it I THINK. Well, I have said my peace. Enjoy the weekend!

My friend works at a tanning salon in Corbin and she said she has NEVER heard of any activation of tanning lotions and she even asked her manager and there is no such thing. You can't just buy tanning beds a think that you can run a successful business without some knowledge of the industry.

That's because there is no such thing. Lotions intensify the effects of the ultraviolet rays on the skin. More than that, it contains ingredients that trigger the production of melanin, the pigment that is responsible for the skin's darker shade. There are no such things as lotions that "activate" in 2-3 minutes or even 16-18 minutes. All lotions are designed to do the same thing. Price points are the only thing that delineates the quality of lotions. You get what you pay for in skin care. That is almost like saying that all tanning beds are the same. Of course the avid tanner knows this isn't true. If you want the facts, you should always stick with the certified, trained professionals in whatever field you are speaking of.

I agree completely. I worked for a tanning salon for 3 years. Lotions are all designed to produce melanin, and make it tan fast than if you didn't use lotion. I bet one person at that salon couldn't tell anyone what's the difference between an accelerator, a bronzer and a tingle. Not to mention the different things inbetween, like how many bronzers, what a tingle really does, the different levels of tingle, etc. People that have no knowledge of the tanning industry shouldn't own a tanning salon. I know where I worked at we were all certified and educated ourselfs with the newest knowledge about new products that we could get. It's a shame that when I walk into a different salon and I ask about a product, already knowing about it, and the person cant tell me anything about it, it's really a shame.

There are certified tanning salons. And no not just anyone can run one. Would you want someone running a tanning salon and give you a sample of lotion that's going to be harmful to you? I don't think so. There is a such this as certification. I do believe I had to take somewhere around 20 tests or more to get mine and you HAVE to make a 85% on each test or better or you fail them.

That place down next to the Mexican restaurant has certified people. They have their certificates hanging on the wall. I walked in there one day while they were in "training" and that lady that runs the place came over and helped me. Just goes to show...I bought a package and a bottle of lotion that day because she always has the knowledge I need. And that was before they got finished with the training stuff. I think it is the other way around... I think the only people who are upset over all of these posts is Paradise Tan people. The "competition" hasn't said anything in dispsute, I don't believe.
LOL that's just the funniest thing! like it's comment! That would be really mean! Well, lets go get some work done!

The place I am talking about is down beside the old Mexican restaurant...La Esperanza. As far as the spray tanning booth goes, I don't know what Paradise has, I was just relying on an earlier post where they said they had Mystic by Hollywood tan. There is no such thing. It is two different spray tanning systems. The people at Silver Screen are certified and have a "shower" spray tan. I don't know what brand it is, but you don't have to worry about inhalation of the DHA. It also has this exfoliation thing at the beginning that is anti-aging and keeps you from turning orange. It was $25 dollars when I did it last month. I also lay in the tanning bed there. Their visits start at $3 and go up to $8 depending on which bed you want. I bought a package yesterday...$45 for a level 1 unlimited monthly and a bottle of lotion. Nothing confusing about that! If I were you, I would stick with the people who know what they have.

You can tell you don't know anything about tanning. Taning beds emit vitaimin D which is vital to help to such things as cancer. And tanning beds let off both UVA and UVB rays which are a lot safer than just going out in the sun.
