What would help you more than anything , is to go back to school, take some classes and learn how to spell and write a sentence correctly .

So maybe you do have a bit of a grammar problem, but I do agree completely with your point of view. It's seriously ridiculous just trying to get basic dental care in this town.

Im in college trying to get my nurse practitioner license at the moment and I have had to put off getting some cavaties filled for nearly a year simply because of the cost, or not being able to get in somewhere soon enough when I do have the cash (bills always seem to pop up at the most inconvient times). It would be so nice if it were an option to go to the ER and them have a dentist on call.

I have preached this for years!!! I had a experience one time with a tooth ache after a dental procedure at 2am that morning. I went to the ER and they gave me pain medication that really didn't help much. It did for a little bit then wore off and the pain came back!! I called DR.Smith and told him and bless his heart, he came in and helped me!! He gave me a numbing shot and that was that! I am eternally grateful that he did come in for me, he didn't have too, but he did. I agree, there needs to be a on call dentist here or a after hour dental center to help people. Some ppl, can't get off work to go or just like you said, emergencies arise and there is a need for them.

Are you serious? Do you realize ER stands for "emergeny" room. I seriously doubt anyone has ever died from a toothache or a filling falling out at 2am. I'll agree that toothaches are painful. How about taking some motrin/tylenol and going to see your dentist as soon as possible. As far as a real dental emergency, a dentist would not be of any help, you would probably be transfered to UK to see an oral surgeon. People aleady take advantage of the ER and use it as a clinic filling the rooms with colds and sorethroats that could wait to be seen at the doctors office. Then you wonder why when you go with something that could be a serious problem you have to wait in the lobby for hours. I was at Knox ER recently with a family member (an actual real emergency that she was transfered out for and had surgery the following day) the staff was great and I really take my hats to them for all the BS they go through, I'm sure on a day to day basis.

I agree there needs to be a dentist on call. I was in the ER once, a few months back and that greyed hair doctor, Lynn, I think was his name, was the dr there. This was on a weekend, Saturday night I think. This man came in with a toothache and that dr was such a smartass to him. He drew the patient a map to several dentists office in the area and told him to take some motrin. I couldn't believe my ears! I really thought the man would punch him, but took off, naturally, cussing the doctor and saying something about Manchester having a better hospital.
While some people do abuse the ER and try to get some narcotics that way, not every one is like that. And those of us who have had to deal with a toothache cropping up on a weekend know just how long it takes for Monday to get here. I swear the minutes just crawl by. It would be very helpful, and a blessing, if there was a dentist on call.

when I was pregnant and thought I was loosing my baby, I went to the ER and met Dr Lynn. Biggest joke of a dr if I have ever seen one and his bedside manners are horrible! He walked over to me and took his pointer finger and hit me in the head with it and said get it through your head we don't deliver babies here! I was only 3 months pregnant and spotting. I was scared to death! Oh man, I came up off that bed on him and backed him out into the hallway! He is a pure total complete RUDE ASSHOLE and I told him where to stick his PHD!

So if you can't pay for a denist you would go to the ER and let the hospital just loose the money.
That's what's wrong with ER's now. People use them for a damn clinic.

OMG the first time I saw this guy in the ER,(years ago) I took, my oldest down there. She was vomiting and a had a high temp, stomach cramps. He comes in there dusting cracker crumbs from his coat, his mouth full of them and starts talking, spraying crumbs everywhere. LOL. I very politely asked him to step back out, swallow or at least get a drink of water. He then spouted off something or other I can't remember, the nurse gives her a shot of phenergan and we go home. Next day, I take off work to take her to the doc, she's dehydrated from vomiting and her stomach hurt from heaving. Acute viral infection with bladder infection on top of it. Needless to say, there's not love lost between us and Dr. Lynn.

Actually, if you don't have health insurance, the hospital has something that can help pay the bill. You fill out papers there, they send you something in the mail, you take it either to the welfare office, if you get that, or take it over to any notary, pay the fee and swear you don't have an income. I've taken my kids aunt once to do that. Spend down I think it's what it's called. It won't cover prescriptions, or radiologists, if you have an x ray. It only covers the ER visit.

You might try calling Gina Mills Messer's office, see if she will see you. I'm not sure about new patients, but established patients can get in right away if it's an emergency. A two week toothache would be an emergency. I hope it's not abcessed as yes, that COULD kill you, not to mention cause additional suffering.

The ER is not a clinic and not the place to go for your toothache, however, I agree that there should be a dentist on call 24/7. Dental problems can occur at anytime and are painful, but don't clog the ER's up with your toothache.

I don't think anyone is saying they're going to the ER just because of a toothache. I think they mean after hours, and on weekends only, or at least, that what I've been referring to.

You talk about the cost of dental work being so high, if you go to the ER the price is much higher. A lot of people use the ER rather than make an appointment because they treat them even if they can't pay. This drives up the cost to everyone else.

cavities dont just pop up overnight. For a decay to become a nightmare took 3 years to reach that stage of unbearable continous pain.
If you think to take this to ER and burden the dental pratitioners there is a real joke.
If you can wait 3 years, you can wait the next day when your dentist become available.
Better still go for regular chek-up even when there is no pain.
This is what I advise my patient in Fiji Islands, South pacific.
