In one of the surrounding areas newspaper they put pictures each week of deadbeat dads/moms who owe child support. I think that is a great idea. They put their picture, name and how much they owe. I think they should do this in all newspapers. As for the comment that said moms dont use the money for their kids..some of them might not, but when it is used to pay electric bills, water bills, buy groceries, gas, etc. that IS for the kids. They have to have utilities too!!!

Only you can appaer before the grand jury. Nobody can do it for you. I know because I just did it this last grand jury. I got an indictment and my fine man is in jail. I got no money. But I didn't think I would. I did get a little satisfaction. Try it.

Sorry but you are incorrect. I took my case myself to the grand jury last month and got an indictment. I did it by myself. I think the grand jury retuned several indictments this month on child support and several last month. In fact the child support office advised me to go the grand jury. I did and it worked.
So now that you have an indictment, what happens? He has to appear before the grand jury? when? How did you go about doing this? You can't just show up can you? What did you have to take with you to get an indictment?

You go on your own, take your proff, and testify before 12 people I think. They returned the indictment the next friday. The child support office was very helpful with me. They gave me the doccumentation of how far he was behind. They told me when the grand jury met. Could not have been nicer. Those women have a rough job. They have to go after the same deadbeat that we do to collect our support. I don;t know why we would think it would be any eaiser for them. They tried and tried to get him to pay me. He kept making promises and nothing happened. When you get to a certain point just put em in jail and forget aboout the money. I did that and it at least made me feel better.

Yea I have forgotten about collecting the money but he is self employed, lives in another state and appears to be living pretty good - nice house, two nice cars, etc. I have worked and taken care of my child myself since our divorce in 1998 and I do pretty good for us myself. He pays the absolute minimum to stay out of jail but he does have a court date in Nov so maybe something will come of that. I had never heard of anyone doing that with the grand jury thereselves. I have all my documentation on how far behind he is but with Ohio enforcing mine and it being in Bell co I don't know which one to even talk to but I will find out if nothing happens in Nov (in Ohio). I know I make frequent calls to OH child support, co attorney (where he lives) etc to get a court date. I'm sure the child support office isn't too fond of me but if I don't nothing ever happens. I can honestly say seeing him in jail would not hurt my feelings any..

For your information, I do work and have always worked, sometimes 3 jobs at a time just to put food on the table for my kids. I cannot get food stamps,(my vehicle is worth more than 4k) hud or any help from grandparents whatsoever... So don't go bashing single parents who really support their children alone, when you don't know the facts!

I have a question for the single mothers/fathers...do you all work or do you use your child support as your main source of income? It's funny that all the mothers I know who receive child support never actually spend it on the children. As soon as it comes in (when it does come in), they are out getting their hair and nails done, buying themselves Hollister and Abercrombie while depending on their children's grandparents and other family members to supply the children with clothes and other needs. There needs to be a way to regulate how the support is spent to ensure the children are getting what they need. And Knox County supplies these mothers with a bucket full of other things such as HUD, food stamps, WIC and vouchers to pay their electric bill.

Instead of wasting your time here on Topix, why don't you appear before the next grand jury and present your case. They meet on October 20, 2008 at 9:00 am in the Knox Circuit Court. They return indictments on the following Friday October 24, 2008 at 9:00 am. You do not need an attorney and it if free. Go ahead, help yourself for a change. You picked the deadbeat that won't pay the child support and aparently spent some time with him. Why wait on someone else to deal with your problems.
Neither the Court nor the Child Support office can make the deadbeat parent have a pocket full of money to pay your support. If they could, we would not be in this discussion. They would be running that printing press in the back room, printing that money like wildfire and the line would be around the building for the handout. All either of them can do is put them in jail if they don't pay the child support. Guess what, You still don't get your child support if they are in jail, because then they can't work even if they wanted too.(most deadbeat parents don't want to work anyway)
The best thing for you to do is go to the grand jury, have him indicted and put in jail. Then get you another job if that is what it takes to take care of your kids. You seem to be the responsible one who is raising the kids. If by some freak chance, that the deadbeat parent does have a big pile of money, then once he is indicted and put in jail, he will fork out the money to get out of jail.

I was never bashing single mothers but mothers who actually use their child support (when they receive it) on their children are few and far in between especialy in this "great county". Let me say this, if you are a single mother who uses their child support or is working 1 or more jobs to support your children then I give you kuddos. You deserve a pat on the back for doing the right thing. But if you are a mother who would rather have your hair done then buy your kids shoes, you don't deserve any help whatsoever. Stop being so selfish and try thinking of your kids first.

Yes I have a job and I also have custody of my kids. My ex in the deadbeat. I think it is her loss that she don't know or care about her kids. As for me and my kids, we are just fine and we don't want her or her money.
