Child Support owed in Knox County

Someone mentioned that we should start a new discussion about how many single mothers/fathers are owed Back Child Support, and who are not getting any help from the County Attorney! I thought that was a great ideal, so everyone please post! I would also like to know exactly how many people believe that the County Attorney, and The Family Court Judge, are NOT doing their job!

ha! they never do their job....my nephew is 5 years old now and his father has not payed a dime in child support for that long and theyre still not doin anything about it...and probably never will...they keep sayin hes goin to jail but he wont...it sucks...bad...but Knox county is a sorry place in case you havent noticed...

i am owed 19,000... he pays a month and then skips two just so they won't do anything to him. the way they prosecute is it has to be three months in a row behind. total bullshit..

Instead of wasting your time here on Topix, why don't you appear before the next grand jury and present your case. They meet on October 20, 2008 at 9:00 am in the Knox Circuit Court. They return indictments on the following Friday October 24, 2008 at 9:00 am. You do not need an attorney and it if free. Go ahead, help yourself for a change. You picked the deadbeat that won't pay the child support and aparently spent some time with him. Why wait on someone else to deal with your problems.

I know exactly how you feel. My ex is in Ohio and Bell Co is in charge of the case but they depend on Ohio to enforce it...what a joke. He now owes 21,000 and he quit his job and stopped paying in March, went to court in July, they did nothing but he promised to pay and set it to be reveiwed in Nov stating he had to pay on time and the whole months support every month between then and Nov and he has paid one week of support every month since then (nothing yet for Oct) so we will see what happens when we go back to court - which will probably be nothing!

That is no how it works...If you have a case with the County Att you have to let them prosecute, it cannot be taken to Grand Jury yourself. I have called the Co Att in Ohio where mine is several times and it usually does result in a court date but still they do nothing to him if he pays a little.

Sorry but you are incorrect. I took my case myself to the grand jury last month and got an indictment. I did it by myself. I think the grand jury retuned several indictments this month on child support and several last month. In fact the child support office advised me to go the grand jury. I did and it worked.

i agree.......i go 2 momths with nothing and then he pays a month and then its 2 more before he pays again! why should they be allowed to go 3 months? the electric co wont wait 3 months and you cant feed them every 3 months and if they wanna be in any school activitys that cost $ they wont wait 3 months! so why do they have the right to wait 3 months before paying? the big wigs just dont get how hard it is to be a single, hard working parent with little or no help! if they do they sure as hell dont show it!

I have a question for the single mothers/fathers...do you all work or do you use your child support as your main source of income? It's funny that all the mothers I know who receive child support never actually spend it on the children. As soon as it comes in (when it does come in), they are out getting their hair and nails done, buying themselves Hollister and Abercrombie while depending on their children's grandparents and other family members to supply the children with clothes and other needs. There needs to be a way to regulate how the support is spent to ensure the children are getting what they need. And Knox County supplies these mothers with a bucket full of other things such as HUD, food stamps, WIC and vouchers to pay their electric bill.

let me tell you something! the only Abercrombie in my house belongs to my kid and i havent had my nails done in years.......my MAIN source of income is MY JOB! as for how some women spend the child support is none of my concern but i would really like to collect mine! and if you have a problem with that then TOO DAMN BAD!!!!!

yea right!!! I am a single parent and work two jobs, you couldnt use child support as a primary income because you rarely get it!! and as far as the grand jury meetings go thats good if it works, but i, like many others i'm sure are scheduled to work that day, and for me i am not missing a whole day of work for something that might come through or might not!! and child support should be monitored, i know a guy who pays child support, and the mother rarely has the kid, she never buys the kid any clothes, so there are cases that should be monitored.

Actually, some women do use child support money for drugs and illicit use. Some don't. He was making a point. If you're mad that you aren't getting child support, go get it. It's nobodies fault but your own. You don't have to take it out on someone expressing their opinion. ;)

REALLY!!!!!! well i have etried to collect and like soooooooo many others we just keep running into the same old song and dance!" we cant do anything yet"! but im not mad, im mearly expressing MY opinion! SORRY IF THAT PISSES YOU OFF!! and as for the moms that spend the money on drugs, well thast not MY fault and if YOU dont like it then YOU should do something about it! call Social Services, if they are on drugs then they will take the kids and therefor no more support! but like i said if YOU dont like it then dont complain about it on topix, go call someone and help the poor kids and leave the good moms the HELL ALONE!!!!!!!!!!

lol....that is usually how it works...its sad, but true...they have a program thru the Welfare office that lets single mothers do the work program and even pays for childcare if youd be comfortable lettin a daycare watch your kids...my sister done this and she is doin very well...she has a job now!! and she can now say she is a single mom who can take care of her child herself...and thats a big accomplishment and something to be proud of...its very helpful and will give you a headstart on living single and payin your own bills and shit without havin to depend on these sorry a$$ men or family and freinds...im giving it a shot...id encourage other single parents to do it too...its a good feeling to know your children will be taken care of, especially when its you that is goin to be enforcing it and working to make it happen.

Neither the Court nor the Child Support office can make the deadbeat parent have a pocket full of money to pay your support. If they could, we would not be in this discussion. They would be running that printing press in the back room, printing that money like wildfire and the line would be around the building for the handout. All either of them can do is put them in jail if they don't pay the child support. Guess what, You still don't get your child support if they are in jail, because then they can't work even if they wanted too.(most deadbeat parents don't want to work anyway)

The best thing for you to do is go to the grand jury, have him indicted and put in jail. Then get you another job if that is what it takes to take care of your kids. You seem to be the responsible one who is raising the kids. If by some freak chance, that the deadbeat parent does have a big pile of money, then once he is indicted and put in jail, he will fork out the money to get out of jail.
