Wondering

Barbourville, KY

#1 Mar 29, 2013
Just wondering, but what time are teachers supposed to leave school each day? I was picking up my child today after school, and I saw several teachers leaving practically before the buses did. I won't say which school it was, but I was just curious if this was the norm at all schools. I have seen several teachers at my child's school staying way past 3:00, but I know that's probably not the norm either. How is it at other schools?

Don't worry about it unless it is your job to stay and keep track of them. Some teachers are coaches and have to leave as soon as school is out to grab something to eat before they come back and stay until late. Some teachers work other jobs that they have to get to because teaching doesn't pay enought especially if they are on one income with kids. And other teachers have no life outside of school and stay for hours after, or have meetings to stay for. Some teachers may have had a bad day and need out of there! If you would like a job watching the clock for them go apply for it. Otherwise don't worry about it!

Other lol teachers around here are paid horribly. Starting teachers salary is roughly 24,000 a year. Teachers have a 4 year degree, a masters degree, and Rank 1. No one is paid worse than teachers.

I make double that and have only been teaching a few years. It's not too bad, especially when you love your career!

Ithink the person that started this topic has every right to ask that question an any other question they want to ask.You must be a teacher because you sound just like one of the rude hateful azz teachers we have in knox county. You could have answered there question without being that way.I'm not talking about all teachers, but most of the ones i have talked to are very rude. It's no wonder some of the kids are like they are after having to listen to hateful people like you all day long.

I wasn't bashing anyone, and I was careful not to name a school. I just wondered what time they were supposed to leave. I guess I assumed they'd have to stay a little while after the kids left. By the way, this wasn't a one time observation. I've seen many teachers with their purses on their arms leaving as soon as the buses pull out, some even before on many other days beside yesterday. Now, it's not all. I've seen cars of teachers in the parking lot of the school hours after school let out. Does that mean they're better teachers? Not necessarily, but it does look a little better to me than the ones leaving before the bell rings! I'm happy with my child's education. I think my child has had great teachers, but there are some that I'd think twice about if my child was put in their classroom as well.

This thread is titled End of Day for teacher and reads quite ominous and foreboding. As a result, I was inclined to read the contents, only to be disappointed. Unless you are going to discuss the teacher apocalypse, this thread is cancelled.

Board policy states that teachers are "on duty" 15 minutes Prior to the beginning of the Official school day Until 15 minutes after the end of the school day for students unless other assignments are made by the building principal. So if the school day ends at 2:45, then only teachers who have afternoon pick up duty that day would have to say past 3 o'clock. Morning duty and afternoon duty for teachers allows Supervision for breakfast and allows parents to be late/early picking up and dropping off students.

So, if all teachers are required to stay 15 minutes past when the school day ends, then teachers SHOULD NOT be seen with their bags heading to their cars as the buses are leaving. Nor should there be parents arriving later than 15 minutes past the end of school to get their kids. Hmm...not sure many in either group are in compliance with that rule!
