I am a underground production operator in Australia. I work 7 days on 7 days off and earn about $160,000 p/a. Prior to entering the industry I was a commercial real estate agent and let me tell you!! I would take a miners life any day!

say what? its not 50 degrees year around. it is what u make it. u can build a bon fire next to your working spot jus to keep warm. some mines let u take burning barrels next to your station and fill it up with coal to keep warm. then in the summer they allow u to run extrnsion cords so u can mount air conditioning unit in your unit. now brake time are weird. you have to dig a hole and bary your lunch pale so mive dont get it. but u have to have alot of flares to keep it lit or u will lose ur lunch.

I have just started working in the mines mostly on belt but a little of everything when they need help, I started out at 17$ an hour and about the temp. It's not like what these people are saying, If your moving around and working alot you'll get pretty warm and you can wear short sleeves and be fine but if you sit in the same area for a few minutes it gets pretty cold. But the pay is good considering you really don't need a collage education just your mining papers and its good to have an EMT card, makes it a little easier to get hired as a green hat with one and you ma get payed a little more, I don't have one but thats just what I hear. The work does get really hard at times and your lower back will hurt some and if your scattering rock dust, Putting it on a pallet or something like that you'll more than likly be sore for a little while. I love working in the coal mines and It's a real good job and you really do earn your pay there. God bless the coal miners and be careful fellow miners. Oh and make sure you keep water in your batter pack because if not it'll more than be going dark. And low vein hats are good, the bigger ones will make you hit your head alot on those low hanging roof bolts or low spots lol. Be careful and always look for loose rock. Good luck hope i helped some. And another thing about temp. I think some mines are different cause other then going up the intake i have never been freezing underground but make sure to bring a warm jacket just in case.

I dont know where you are getting this "constant temperature" all year round crap but its not true! Whatever the weather is outside is what it is underground! You being a miner should know that....or are you??? Ive been a coal miner for 5 years now and I wish it was always 50 degrees! This past winter it got dwn to 4 degrees underground. This summer will get up to 90...
You must have worker under the warehouse or some other building it stays within a few degrees year round under ground. Stay off the pipe and you'll quit posting foolishness.

Become a RN, make $30+ to start. Lots of overtime here, too. DOUBLE TIME PAST 16 HOURS A DAY OR 60 HOURS IN ONE WEEK. CLIMATE CONTROLLED, BUT CAN BE PHYSICALLY TAXING.

Can you be hired before you take your classes and have the mining company send you to class, or do you have to take the classes on your own before you can even apply for a job?
