<quoted text> Now "Q" at what point does a gun become an assault weapon ? Down at corbin at the kentucky outdoorsman store you can buy a 50 calibur rifle for around 5 thousand dollars. do you think the public should be able to own one of these ? I don't !! Have you ever seen one and what size shell it uses ? It cost over 5 dollars to shoot it one time ! Let's get some of these RAMBO style guns out of all people's hands to maybe help to make it a little safer for everyone ! GO OBAMA!!!!!!!!!
Yes but you can get one a lot cheaper... And Yes if a Individual that has no criminal record want a .50BMG I don't see an issue... I have fired many of them.... I have fired a 20 mm Lapua, and pretty much every assorted fire around with some noted exceptions.. I really want to fire a P-90... I have owned about every caliber of civilian weapon that can be had over my long life from a .500 Nitro Express Double to a .17... I have built cannons that can fire a 6lb ball 5 miles down range to 10" mortars that can toss a concrete filled paint can a mile down range... And If Every gun was taken tomorrow I can build a new one the next day...

And there is No reason law abiding citizens should be restricted in what guns they own... About the only people that like the taking of gun are dope heads, thieves and rapists... Obama is an admitted doper... Which are you?

The United States Government could ban Oxygen, and the people would go right along with it. Well, most of them anyway.

Why shouldn't a law abiding citizen be allowed to own a .50 caliber? The real reason our founding fathers put the 2nd amendment in the constitution was so the government would work for the people. If they didn't, they knew the people had the means to take up arms and take back control. The more rights you give up the more you are subject to the government.

Obama says time to trade freedom for security today in relation to Conn. School shooting and gun ownership. Look out he's about to try to do away with the Constitution using this tragedy as bait for support. It's going to get very nasty soon.

Ok, so if that's your choice of weapons good for you. But, don't deny the rest of us our choice. It is our right to choose in this country.

It may be slow in coming full circle but it will I believe. Obama has let the cat out of the bag but is being cautious about the timeline saying that there are a lot of complications involved. That meaning he has people working on what it will take to abolish the 2nd. ammendment or the whole Constitution and have the majority support it.

I don't thank you even know how the government works. I don't believe Obama can't do much without the congress. I love it when people say Obama is spending our money. When by law ALL spending bills have to start in congress. But I would say you must have used all your time picking your nose and playing with your yo yo. You don't know much.

I agree, but a lot of people just don't have a clue as to the problem.

To start, let me say that all of us grieve for the people that have lost their lives (by any method of murder) to evil people. I have four children at home and get both angry and sad when I think of the children killed in Connecticut. I am also still very angry and sad when I see the stories on 9-11-01 when the towers fell and when I see the photo of the crying firefighter carrying the dead child out of the ruins of the blasted federal building in Oklahoma City.

There are evil people in our society. Whether or not they have guns is irrelevant. Everybody needs to recognize this. Regardless of whether these bad people use guns, ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel, box cutters, or whatever, they will find some tool to perform the evil that they want to do. Infringing on the rights of the law-abiding owners of guns, box cutters, and/or fertilizer & diesel fuel will not fix the problem.

In the case of the recent shootings, I fully believe that a single armed and trained security guard or off-duty police officer at any of these places where these horrible massacres took place would have either stopped the incident from happening or given enough time to both evacuate the premises and have a prompt response by area police. Armed, trained air marshals and TSA officials have been very effective since 9-11 and the same would hold true in our schools. Iíll bet the violent crime rate is far lower at stores with armed security guards or moonlighting police officers stationed therein than those without.

When is the last time that you ever heard of someone being shot with one of these that you've mentioned? Never is probably your answer, so why ban something that has caused no harm to the public?

in 2011 the Total number of homicides committed with All Types, Calibers and capacity of rifles in the US.... 323... 22 of which were Justifiable Homicides... During that same period 1,694 homicides were committed using knives, over 700 using hand & feet and around 400 using Hammers.... Of those 201 committed with rifles only about a 3rd were what could be described as assault weapons style, of those 100 or so I would bet that 90% of the bad guys would have committed those homicides using one of the more popular murder weapons....

It's not a color of skin issue. There are good citizens and bad citizens of every color. The main point is taking away frredom of choice and the ability to protect ones self and family against criminals and tyranny. Calling 911 is great for medical emergencies, but when someone is bent on killing you or your family the police are probably busy and are minutes away when it takes seconds to for the perp to do what they intended. When you're dead it doesn't matter if the police respond in 2 minutes or less. I know it has been said a million times but the truth is the truth. When only the bad guys have guns the good guys are targets for them. Why isn't the govt. focused on getting guns from the bad guys? They can't do it, just like the war on drugs it requires criminals to be law abiding and we know how that will pan out. The govt. is submitting a feel good policy. They can never get rid of all the guns in this country and they know it. They will make law abiding citizens become criminals by writing this legislation. That is what they intend to do so they can say "see we have gotten thousands of guns off the streets" with this new law. Congress does not have the "legal" power to circumvent the constitution, so they will do it illegally using otherwise law abiding citizens.
