I don't think that needing one is the issue here. It's the right to bear arms and ones own personal wish to own one that would be the issue.Another personal choice made for you by your friendly neighborhood govt.

If the enemy or criminals have all the good guns; what do we get? Conquered, killed or enslaved.

Tell that to the family of a home invasion when they have to bury a kid or two....

Tell that to someone after being beaten half to death for 10 bucks in their wallet..

.. Totally depends on shot placement... Yes a .22 will take down an Elephant but I would not go hunting for a elephant with one... In a high tension combat situation adrenalin rushes, reactions take place, and fight or flight mindset happens... In such a situation a person can take several round of 9mm and keep coming... And hitting a moving target that might be shooting back is not as easy as you might think...

Also what is being proposed to be banned are not Assault Weapons just weapons that Look like assault weapons as Assault Weapons are full auto or Burst select ... There is No difference between a Browning .308 auto loading deer rifle and a .308 being banned other that Looks... In Fact a 30.06 autoloader deer rifle is far deadlier than a .223 AR or AK and has much greater power that a 7.62 X 39 AK or SKS ....

If the situation arises I want the option to pick the weapon I think will provide my and my families best chance of survival... In most cases that will be a 12 gauge around the house and a 9mm when away from home... But In a Meth Infected County the option for a .30 call with a 100 round drum or a couple 30 round mags should always be on the menu.... And anyway... They are a hoot to shoot...

Wtf does anyone need an assault rifle for? It's only about assault rifles. Stop trying to make it sound like they are coming for all our guns. It's not going to happen.

You people are morons.. Get a life and quit being so paranoid.. The government is not going to take your stupid guns... But keep sending your money to the NRA. Ted the retard Nugent appreciates it.. Helps to pay for that huge ranch since his horrible music isn't making him a living..

I can't believe how ignorant people are. The honest person isn't going to go out and shoot anyone (unless they are breaking into my house or trying to rob me). But, the crook will still kill & rob with a gun regardless if there is a ban or not. They are still going to find a way to get a gun. Any gun!! So all this ban would be doing is punishing the honest person who wants to own a assault rifle. And why do I want a AK? Well, they are fun to shoot!!(at targets)

Those have been restricted in the US for many years they are full auto rifles. The only way you can own one of those is to get a license from the government and pay thousands of dollars for one.The ban discussed isn't about those guns.
