That is of course Idiotic....

Drugs Are Banned that's why people go to jail for possession...

Booze Was Banned with the 18th Amendment which cause over 32,000 people to be killed in the violence it caused and unknown numbers died from bathtub hootch until it was repealed with the 21st Amendment...

Assault Weapons Were Banned and just as many people were killed Including the children at Columbine by two other kids that Illegally obtained Illegal Banned guns...

Nothing that has Ever been Banned has not been readily obtainable by someone that wants it, Ever in the History of the US....

Murder is Banned, Drunk Driving is Banned, Rape is Banned, Making Meth is Banned....

The same Idiotic argument for So Called Assault weapons can be made for Cars... No One Needs a car that can go 140mph, the speed limit is 70 on the Interstate... So no one Needs a Car that can go over 80mph ... So Lets Ban all Blowers for car motors, Lets Ban all motors over 80 horse power and require governors on all cars so they cannot go faster than 80mph...

That is No Different that me having a .308 Hunting rifle and adding a pistol grip to it, or having a magazine that hold 20 rounds which would make that Deer Rifle fall under the So Called Assault Weapons Ban....

If you Ban So Called Assault Weapons you may save a handful of lives, maybe..maybe not...

But If you limited All Cars to 80mph you would save an estimated 20,000 lives a year....

And while I'm at it the driver of the car that caused this tragedy was Banned from Driving as his Lic had been revoked, The Driver of that car had already sold Banned Meth, that driver had already made Banned Meth, that Driver was Banned from Drinking any Alcohol and was driving in a dry county... He was a Multiple Convicted Felon ... And No Ban known to man would have stopped him from being what he became ... A Murderer which is Banned in Knox County....
thankyou

Thank you for attempting to provide documentation to your facts. You do have a few stats to back it up but this was not a broad enough article to make a definite statement. I would rather see a comprehensive study rather than this. What about the number of DUI arrests in dry vs wet counties? how many of these crashes in dry or wet counties does the driver flee due to being dui but is not reported or located? or what about when someone lies and says a sober person was driving? It is basically impossible to determine which county has more DUIs. You can only go off what is reported from crashes. You have to take into consideratino population, law enforcement efforts, so forth to try to get a baseline of DUIs. Also this needs to be compared to other similar cities and not comparing Mccreary to Laurel County.
