When people apply to the Federal or State Goverments for Social Security Disability, SSI, Food Stamps, HUD, Section 8 Housing, EBT Cards, Medicare / Medicaid, KCEOC help and so forth, do the various agencies drug test the applicants before granting the aid?

Around the first week of every month you see some people walking around in stores that look like they have major drug issues, and some others that look so stoned that you could buzz them in the butt with a stun gun and they probably wouldn't even notice it or scratch the itch.

What is the truth about this testing -- if it exists?

The judgements of funny, clueless, and nuts are cute - but the question was serious.

Can anyone answer it truthfully and accurately?

It was not intended to be a joke........

they do not drug test now, it is being voted on at the capitol during this session. I heard it had passed one house and had to go to the last step before it will be made into law. I havent heard anything for a few weeks, common sense will tell you that if you have to be tested at work , then you must be tested if you draw anything from the gov. its is only fair and it will save a lot of money when they cut people off the free stuf or they will get clean one of the two.

Probably so, but it'll be more trouble than it's worth.

I totally disagree, I think they should be drug tested. think of the money the state will save. and maybe put some of the freeloaders to work. and as for more crime, well you cant depend on anyone else to protect you and yours, invest in a good pistol. they may steel for a while, but when the theives start falling, the others will think differend, as for the children, maybe they will be put in homes where they are fed and cared for . test them every time they sign up, which is what maybe 2 x's a year. no different and me at workplace.

if they're going to do it...they should send them to the health department for a blood test...not any pizz tests...there are too many ways around them.

When you shoot one of these people stealing from you, good luck in court. and BTW, do you not think Foster homes and Orphanages cost money? The costs are far greater to run those programs than the foodstamps, SSI & KTAP.

Your drug testing at your work place is a private business policy, not government mandated.

And since we are on the subject of drug testing, test the Politicians and anyone else tht works in a government job.

that's what i've been trying to say luth...the cost of government assistance to help our own..is very short number of the defecate...at least that money is staying here....illegals and foreigners send more money over seas each year...than what we spend on government programs...why ppl would rather help foreigners than our own...is a mystery to me..

i do not get welfare to know firsthand but i do pay attention to the news.
to my knowledge they were supposed to start testing welfare recipients in Kentucky but didn't.

i don't have a bit of an issue with people being tested if they receive government aid but ONLY if the workers in the food stamp office and child protective services offices are also tested on a regular basis.

i think that since the regular Joe is tested for jobs, and often at random, so should be ALL workers, including judges, lawyers, cops, teachers, nurses, doctors, child care workers, etc...EVERYONE should be tested at random and I do mean EVERYONE.

BTW, dont judge a book by it's cover or stereotype. i do not use any drugs, not even prescription, except for stomach meds and glaucoma drops. i have dark circles under my eyes from the glaucoma drops a nd sinus issues/allergies and i am sure some people think that i do drugs just by how i look.

plus, not everyone who draws a check uses it to get high. i used to draw a check but my money went on rent/utilities etc and i went to school full time while drawing. i knew literally a hundred women who went to school while drawing and didnt do drugs. so dont stereotype and dont assume.

and btw, as far as 'what they want' of course it is!...
i bet none of you know that when child protective services adopts out a child whom they have put in foster care, the worker gets a bonus of up to 50,000 usd...you read that right--up to fifty thousand dollars if they adopt out a child whom they took out of its home. so please tell me how drug testing welfare recipients is cost effective? tax dollars pay that big bonus just like it pays food stamps etc....
