I just wanted to say how impressed I am with the band this year. I don't know who or what has got them so better this year, all I know is I actually watched their performance at the last game and very impressed with how far they have came. Normally, in the last few years I lost interest in watching them and hearing people laugh at them but this last game was totally different the crowd was really into it. I am looking forward to seeing them take the field this Friday as well. Keep up the Great work marching band. wishing you all well on your competitions.

Why did they do so bad at competition and Corbin won if they're so improved?

Because competition was rigged. Mr. Dixon does a great job with those kids. People don't realize how much talent these kids have, and what a massive work ethic it takes to stay with the band. There isn't many people out there that could play a wind instrument and march at the same time. Way to go panther marching band!!! Not to mention how much money it takes to run a band program. Its about time our school board and community put some money into some of our school organizations other than football.
Music is a lifetime activity, all people have music in their lives everyday. How many of these football players are going to do anything with that sport after high school? Its ridiculous how much these boys are catered to. Special meals and such. The band and other less popular groups and sports teams can't even get ice water.

I don't appreciate the "shots" song they play and sing. Totally inappropriate!!!! The adults should put that to a stop. Alcohol is a big enough issue in high school, it shouldn't be encouraged.

Btw the football program raises their own money through the 12th man club for the "special meals" and such. Don't point fingers unless you have all of the facts right. Being judgmental of other programs isn't going to benefit yours. It will only make you bitter. The blame game doesn't do anyone good.

Yes i know about the 12th man club, and i think it is great. But when there is such a large number of participation in a sport like football that is encouraged around this community from a very young age, it is easy to get parent volunteers. Music education and participation in Knox county is at a barely there level. If participation in the arts was pushed half as much as football, there would be a greater number of participates which may produce more parents to support their ventures. Other less popular sports such as golf, volleyball, track, and tennis also feel this injustice. Even the basketball team at the high school doesn't get near the support that football gets.

The band is not at a high school level. They are more like an elementary band. The board spent a lot of money for their band room and new uniforms and the band directors salary . Don't forget how easily the whole program could be cut. I agree about the shots song. Very inapprpriate for a school

When was the last time someone cared about anything the band won? Much more difficult to win a football game because schools care about football. It brings money into the school can band say the same thing? They can't even support their program.

The band competitions aren't district. They are like weekly games and they never win. The whole school has few successful programs

I understand about the "shots". That was a drum cadence made up during band camp by an instructor, a lot of the kids, and the directors didn't know there was an actual song to it. No worries though now that it has been brought to the directors attention about the song maybe they will no longer shout "Shots", instead they may shout "Win". This group of kids and people are trying very hard to build the band back up to what it once was. They have new people in this year, along with an Assistant Director who are doing their best by these kids to make the School and community proud of them. Now, as far as someone saying earlier about Uniforms, They DID NOT get them bought by the school or board the boosters paid for them. These kids work their tails off for 2 weeks straight in the summer to learn marching and new music only to be laughed at, mocked and talked bad about. As far as competitions if you are so concerned why don't you go to Corbin Saturday and show some support. One other thing the person who said that the school is all about football, I have to agree with them, My God it is so obvious that an moron can see it. While that school praises football the other activities suffer. They don't get near the money from the board allotment that the Football Program gets. The other activities such as Choir, Band and others that must spread the allotment throughout the year to pay for everything from the Elementary Schools, Middle School and High School, while the Football Program does not. By the way just so some of you know I am not affiliated with the Band, I am just someone who knows how KCHS operates.

The football team trains year round, they do more in a workout than the band does in their entire two week periods. Go watch one of the teams offseason workouts at the field house and you will know why they get support. They earn it!
