I used to get out my hanky, show my teeth, gravel my voice and make people laugh with an imitation of "When the Saints go Marching In" or "Hello Dolly". LOL<quoted text>
I know most people probably associate it more with Hank, Sr., if they know it at all.:-) It is surprising how many songs were made popular by other artists, but originated in Jazz or R&B. Louie is one of my favorites. I have a recording of a collection of his songs,'What A Wonderful World'; an all time great!
But what goes around comes around and after some carotid artery surgery, I automatically have a gravelly voice and it is not all that laughable. Sorry Louis. Speaking of R&B, I have been on Youtube listening to B.B. King and Eric Clapton. Older Country and R&B are my choices in music. I even like Willie's versions of some of the old pop classics and I think he does "You were Always on My Mind" better than Elvis did. Seems to be a bit more from the heart.
