I was recently watching the History Channel series "The Story of All Of US" and it was smallpox that wiped out the Aztecs, not the weapons of the 500 Spaniards.

Quite often what one says or writes can be taken differently than the author intended, but I don't make it a habit to stand on the edge of a cliff hoping I don't fall off.

The S word has hit here too now. We had a small amount of rain and the two have made it pretty slick outside.

About 6 more weeks and the baby goats will start being born. Most will be sold this year. I ran into my favorite goat guy while Christmas shopping. I let him know we will have a few for him this spring. I might end up selling my one big black billy, but I really want to keep him one more year and fix him up with Red and keep the spotted goat bloodline going. He just keeps getting out too much. He would bring a pretty penny too. They are mainly interested in the weight.

If milk goes to $8 a gallon as some predict, we might all want some goats.

When Americans snob their nose at goats milk, the other 70% of the planet snobs their nose at our cow milk. Goat milk is enjoyed by 70% of the world.

The "S" word is falling here too and the ground is lightly covered.

So the Wildcats lost the Battle of the Bluegrass. Rare, but they were down 17, ranked 23rd, a bunch of freshman AGAIN battling Juniors/Seniors ranked 3rd. Until March we are still the Champs, although most of them are playing with the NBA. lol It was a good game, lost by 3. Could possibly have won it in the last couple minutes if they had made their free throws. Oh well...like someone posted on FB..

Cardinals are red, Wildcats are blue, we have 8 titles, and you only have 2! Go Cats!

No, don't go yet AW, I found the cutest story scanning the headlines you will love....

After couple saves chicken, chicken clucks to the rescue in house fire

Karma came to Wisconsin in the guise of a lame-footed chicken named Cluck Cluck, whose excited clucking saved her owners and herself from being burned in a house fire. Dennis Murawska adopted Cluck Cluck from a neighbor who had decided to kill her when she stopped producing eggs. Treating Cluck Cluck like a pet, he built her a fine coop and moved her into his basement during cold weather. Little did he know Cluck Cluck would save him right back, by clucking at full blast from the basement at 6:15 a.m. when a fire broke out in the house. Her frantic calls woke Dennis and his wife, who were lying two stories above, while their two cats ran around doing absolutely nothing.[Source]

I like goat milk better than cow milk and really I like goat meat better than beef. Goat milk is hard to find here and higher than cow milk is in the grocery. Sure wish I had a supplier though.:) But of course "home grown" goat milk is illegal to purchase. Have to break the law to get it!

you are one up on me, I did not know you could not sell milk, bummer. I make butter and it would be nice to be able find someone who did, even goat.

@Hempburn:

Why is it illegal to sell or get raw milk?

The FDA of course. You can eat chocolate with all its rodent hair and bug parts with their blessing but not raw milk.

2 ways around it. In some states they're allowed to sell raw milk in containers as long as it's marked "for animal consumption only" ( I have sold this in Whole Foods in Florida).

The other way, if you own a farm you can drink the milk( your farm your cows) so dairies allow you to buy 1 share in the farm which makes you an "owner" making it legal to buy.

Raw milk cheeses aged less then 60 days are also illegal in the USA ( but not in Europe). Pregnant women and people with low immune systems shouldn't drink or eat unpastaurized milk products.

Outside of that the risks of getting sick are extremely low.

Pasteurizing milk kills the flavor because it kills most of the bacteria.

People often ask "why does cheese in Europe taste so much better"? That's the reason.(unpastaurized).

The FDA and USDA in the USA are a confused bunch.
In reality you can get sick with almost all badly mishandled meat, poultry, fish, dairy, and many other products.

Years ago( 1960's) there was an accident in Europe with a cheese called "Vacherin Mont D'or" ( the Swiss version, not the French) which caused some deaths. Similar to the infamous "Jack in The Box" accident. This caused the stir about pasteurization here in the US ( but not where it happened in Europe)! Things happen. That's life.
The ironic part about the mishap was that the Swiss were experimenting with pasteurizing at that time.

The batch that caused the contamination was caused by improper pasteuization which caused a deadly bacteria to grow in the cheese.
Had they have left if raw it would have never happened.

To bad unpasteurized milk and cheeses(aged under 60 days ) are illegal when you can can sick taking your children to Taco Bell or some other fast food place while the incidents with unpasteaurized milk products are almost nil in the rest of the world.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index...

It is illegal in many areas to sell goat's milk without being a fully licensed and USDA-certified dairy because of health concerns.

Sorry about the cut and paste, I know you all hate that. It is more factual than in my own words. Sybil probably has more on it.

Taking a hot bath with some Constant Comment Orange Spice tea, candles and some alone time. Might be back later.

Have a good evening.
