Has anyone else's utility bill gone up DRAMATICALLY? I just got my bill and it has gone up almost $200 from last month. That in itself wouldn't be that bad, but we were gone for most of the month that bill is for. I wish there were other options for water and electric here!

Mine was almost 250.00 this month. Up $75.00 from last month. Everything on it went up. That charge to come out to read the meter is highway robbery. I live in town and it don't cost $25.00 in gas to drive from BUC to here. Not even 50 cents. Someone is getting a nice vacation off of this.

I don't know if the att General at the Capital can help. But, the BUC has the monopoly on the prices here. We need it they have it and we have to pay or get candles.

I'm assuming our bills have went up to compensate for the gas of their trucks. They sit all day at Shell and it's been hot so they've left it running to sit in the cool ac all day. My child is 9 and they told me today, "Mom I want to work at Barbourville Utilities when I grow up because they sit at the Shell all day and get paid to do nothing!" Hello people! lol

What I heard is that they were not able to raise the price of the electric AGAIN so they raised the prices of the sewer and the water to pay for the new lights or new poles or something like that that they are installing at the nursing home. By the time they are ready to put them in, they will already be paid for out of our pockets. The electric I am pretty sure is controlled so they have to go by some standard s afar as how much they are able to charge. But I don't think there's any regulations for the water and the sewer.

The major reason for most of the financial problems in the county right now, is the loss of tax revenue from tru-seal. The good ole union boys and girls and their supporters have raped the whole county. You folks just dig a little deeper and pay your bills and thank the steal workers for all the help. Truseal paid tens of thousands of dollars a month in bills to the utility company and that has to be made up somewhere. The dummies that ran the place off should be blamed, not the utility co. Check with all the union people maybe the will help make up the extra cost they helped put on you.

I live right up the road from the new nursing home and I have had trouble with my electeic since they have installed it there,it flickers all the time and my cable is always going out and internet is slow.I know they say it has nothing to do with the nursing home but I never had problems until then,i call and complain and that's my answer.Im wondering if the ppl that works there gets a discount on their electric bill and have to pay for fuel like rest of us do.I cant believe everyone has to pay a fuel bill for the dam electric trucks sit at shell.Im gonna go take pictures of these trucks at shell and send them to news stations and papers

I wrote a letter to the editor for publication in The Advocate once outlining the same policy of spending much of the day sitting in a truck napping and not only was it not published but another letter appeared talking about what great work they do. The fix is in. LOL

My bill went up $100 more from last month. And we have not had a hot summer just think what it would of been, If we had a hot summer. I agree something needs to be done about Barbourville utilities. We need some competition. Can't get the street dept. to come out in the city limits to cut the trees around the utility light I am ready to have it turned off. Fed up with Barbourville.

Same issue with RECC. People should take this to yr representative and make some laws on this kind of thing. It's never been taken that far, jut talk. I have KU but I know plenty who are being screwed over by BU and RECC. Working man can't catch a break ! Band together and make some noise where it counts.

So how would someone go about "taking it higher?" Contact our Representative first? Good ole boy Jim Stewart?

Maybe contact Attorney General and ask what steps need to be taken.

Set a new president for this type thing. Soon many will follow. It's just like passing any other laws, like Amber Alerts, etc. takes some time and effort but have faith, it can be done. Time for everyone to stand up and recognize the working man. Good luck, keep us posted if u decide to move forward with this.
