I heard from a employee that St Joes looked at the hosp to buy it and because of the long term care unit turned it down. So now, JM is putting the old ppl out in hopes to get them to reconsider. No promises to even look at it again. That's BAD!!

the long term care at the hospital is costing too much to run, taking care of the elderly on a 24 hour basis is costly! and when half the people in this town do not have health insurance and use the emergency room as a free clinic then you have this happen. no money coming in means the doctors and nurses and the electric bill and supply's don't get bought or paid for! it is that simple people.if every one had insurance and the hospital got paid for its service perhaps we could keep it open with out bouncing pay checks and working on a skeleton shift.and attract some good doctors to work down here. and we wouldnt have to drive a hundred miles to see a doctor.

THIS IS THE ANSWER!!!

Do you people realize that most of Knox county has zero insurance? Every time someone goes into that place without it, the hospital eats the bill. Hopefully you also realize that medicaid/medicare only pay a small fraction of the actuall bill. If I'm not mistaken medicaid pays 28 cents on the dollar and medicare pays 48 cents on the dollar. That means the hospital eats the rest of the bill. So this is why the place is shutting down....it won't be long until the entire place is closed. Hospitals are for profit and no one could save that hospital with most of the people not paying their bills.

its closing because the hospital board members are going to make money from selling the long term license for MONEY!!! If you were right then forcht would close Barbourville nursing home.

Go stick one of your relatives into Barbourville Nursing Home and see how much it cost you....They will take your medicaid/medicare and their SS check and then after that, they will take their property also to pay the difference.

I had my grandmother in the B,ville one and they took her entire SS check and then put a lien on her farm to cover the rest. We had to sell it to pay the difference off. She owed about $40k after about 2 years in the place. So yes it is about money! Money that most around here don't/can't pay....and before you say "they can't do that"....yes they can! I called Charlie Dixon myself and he said "they did it to his grandmother also" when she was in the nursing home in Corbin...

you are right the nursing home is getting plenty of money from the residents..their checks, medicaid, medicare, insurance, bank accounts so the question remains the same why close it. It is not for the lack of making money from the residences that live there it is because they will make ALOT of money from the sale of the license.

Its because the Bville nursing home can pick and choose who they place into long term care (ie, people with something to take), the hospital has no choice but to take everyone, so if they don't have anything to take, they can't get paid.

I just don't understand the argument over the sale of the hospital's license. If your not using it, why not sell it? I think people are putting the effect before the cause. It's only a matter of time before the whole hospital closes. Hardly anyone pays their bills, so its going to have to close also.
