You sound like a very uneducated person not only with respect to religion, etc., or purpose of life. You are probably very young and never had any reason to call on a higher power or you would not be spouting off atheist words and trying to pin people down for an answer. The answer is with the Lord. Guess what? No man knows the full reason for God's plan or why man/woman is here. But just THINK about it as you look about at the wonder of this world and how each and every little thing works for a purpose on this earth; how perfect are all things man has not corrupted; and how LOVE exists in the world between people. That is the answer really, for God is Love. What we choose as individuals to do in our lives is up to us. We start out perfect then it is up to us to live as closely as we can to the instructions of Christ who came to cover our sins and offer mercy through the Father who rules from heaven. I don't claim to know a lot about what the Bible says, but spiritual interpretation is much different than carnal. One must be given wisdom enough to take from a verse what one needs at the moment. If we could only be blessed enough to accept that God is in control but man creates the hell on earth that has come and gone and will come again. Go to church and see if you can feel God's spirit beckoning you. You cannot mistake it, for there is nothing like it. Worry about your soul and not so much about WHY?

You guys are all idiots. Its a known fact that the earth was created by a giant turtle standing on the back of another giant turtle. Its turtles all the way down, and if you don't believe that you go to a bad place when you die.

Here's a few verses that you may not have remembered from Sunday school:
1.Isaiah 45:7-"I form the light and create the darkness, I make peace and create calamity (war, misfortune, or disaster, I the Lord, do all these things."
Stop blaming Satan for that stuff, God just said he willingly caused it-Hurricane Katrina, 9-11, War in Iraq, Holocaust-all God's doing.
2. Deuteronomy 13:6-9-"If anyone says "let us go and serve other gods" you shall not listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, but you shall surely KILL him; your hand shall be the first against him to put him to death and afterward the hand of all the people."
Wow, watch out Muslims and Buddhists-Don't invite a Christian to any kind of religious ceremony-that shit'll get you killed.
3. Hosea 9:16-"Ephraim is stricken, Their root is dried up, They shall bear no fruit. Yes, they were to bear children, I would kill the darlings of their womb."
Obama kills babies? So does God!=D
4. Hosea 13:16-"Samaria is held guilty, for she has rebelled against her God, They shall fall by the sword, Their infants shall be dashed to pieces, and their women with child ripped open."
5.Psalms 137: 8-9-"O Daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed, Happy the one who repays you as you have served us! Happy the one who takes and dashes your little ones against the rock!"

The king James bible is barely 400 years old... while the old testament is supposedly 6000 years old...Im sure nothing new happened between those two writings...I think you are insane to think so...look at our history books they change every day but your stories about how more than 2 million animals could fit on a single boat have not

I was raised in a Christian home. I read the Bible a lot when I was younger.
I never really thought about anything for myself until recently. Whenever someone asked me a question regarding the Bible or christianity, I would always tell them that so and so says this, but I didn't know the answer for myself. I always went on hear-say.
Anyways, I'm not saying that I don't believe in God or the Bible, because I absolutely do, although I'm not following the faith. I just find it somewhat amusing that all these so called "Christians" bash others for asking a geniune question. They're the first ones to call someone stupid or an idiot.
You know, it is possible to believe the Bible and be open-minded. You should try it sometime.
I'd be interested to know where your journey has taken you in the past year - now that you are thinking for yourself. What conclusions have your drawn? What references have you used? An open mind is the first thing that must happen to go beyond our upbringing and forward into a fascinatingly complex and curious universe. Admitting that we don't have all the answers to explain our universe is the only way to expand our view of it.

Ok .. im having some trouble i was raised catholic but lately ive been feeling emotions of resentment or something like that .. i think the idea of god is a great story but im starting to be more convinced that its all lies . People need an explaination to their origin and some man named Jesus came up with the oldest story that exists .. however i still think we should do good and all that . People like doctors and teachers dont receive as much grattitude as God does and theyre people who we know for sure exists so yeah its all too ironic and silly to me but who knows maybe someday ill be prooven wrong .. oh and if there is a god who says its a HE ? Hmm ..
Mayra - I highly recommend that you listen/watch Julia Sweeney's program: "Letting Go of God." (you can find it on YouTube) She was raised Catholic, and like yourself, began a journey that led her to make her own conclusions and decisions regarding her upbringing.

Well if all the people from Spain wouldent have came to Mexico and forced everyone into being Catholic and destroyed anything that had to do with what they believed then i would have never been Catholic and someone asked me a smart question when i said this, she said "ok but if that hadent happened you wouldent exist" and to that i have found an anwser : yes i wouldent but someone else would and they would end up being christians because of that cruelty .. to me it Just depends on where you were born thats why theres different religions and honestly i dont think any of them right .. people need to loose the necessity of having something bigger out there to look forward to and worry about this moment . Plant a tree, enjoy life, be kind, and dont fall into that category of blindness
You bring up an very interesting and important observation. If you were separated from your Catholic parents when you were 6 months old, and adopted by a family from Cairo and raised a Muslim, what religion do you suppose you would believe? What if you were adopted by a family from Mumbai? Probably you'd be a Hindu. And if you were raised by a family from Kathmandu? I'm guessing you'd be a Buddhist. How about a family from Kentucky, Sweden, or the Amazonian jungle?

The FACT is: what religion you believe in depends more on geography, history, and culture than on the nebulous ideas of truth, faith, or correctness. If any of you folks posting here adopted a baby from the heart of the middle east, born to a devout Shiite family, and raised them in your house, that child would grow up believing what *you* teach them.

Ponder this.

No, the problem is like you take a word in chinese, russian, spanish, or any other language that is unknown to you, if you don't have a dictionary to find out what that word means then you don't know what it is talking about. It's not a problem at all, it is just a matter of understanding and knowing what it is actually talking about, translated from its original language it was written or spoken in. Pretty simple.

first things first, you obviously do not read the bible, you just quote things that you,see other people tell you, or see on the internet about the Holy Bible, let me tell you something, do not read anything else, unless it comes from the KJV Bible, there are plenty of Bibles available these days that are being changed, Gods word is being perverted, and those who pervert his word, will be thrown into the lake of Fire.Mormon bible,Catholic bible, etc are all lies, unless it is for Christ, otherwise it is the deeds and deception of Lucifer, and he is very good at deceiving
God bless
You are a fool. Anyone who knows their history would know that the king James bible is a changed versioning the catholic bible. Protestants removed 6 of the original books and replaced them with ones they thought suitable. And you said yourself, anyone who perverts the word of god shall be thrown into a lake of fire. The catholic bible existed long before the king James.. idiot.

For all you Bible thumping, God fearing hillbillies, it would behoove you to stop your primal ranting and impassioned defenses of Biblical doctrines. The stories and teachings of the Bible are and always will be fiction. It goes without saying that the Bible (sometimes) provides a realistic moral code, but I can derive didactic and moral value from many other works of fiction as well. And for all of you who actually believe that God "punishes" entire nations by way of war and suffering, I hope you are aware that you are more morally corrupt than most atheists.

"You are probably very young and never had any reason to call on a higher power I've met many old, rational people who have no need for an imaginary friend.

"No man knows the full reason for God's plan or why man/woman is here." The "plan" is that humans created gods, mainly to control other humans.

"That is the answer really, for God is Love." Does that include smiting and burning people?

"We start out perfect" Except for men. Your god wants all men to cut off their foreskin. And there are all those babies born with birth defects....

"I don't claim to know a lot about what the Bible says" You must not take it too seriously then.
