dont just answer one question and try to avoid the rest.
many men wrote the bible according to what god inspired them to write. the bible say's many will come as angels of light, but beware them. i guess that might be why there are so many different religion's. one thing hold's true for all the religion's combined and that is, that there is a higher being that created earth and man. some have different name's for whom they believe god is. as far as all the other rligion's dying and going to hell, who know's what a wrong religion is? we have all been taught as our father's before us. remember that america and american's were not in existence in the biblical era. all that is referred to in revelation's as to people in general are direction's east, north, south and west, except for the land's that were familiar in biblical time's. they were mentioned by name and some were given other name's that john said were told to him by an angel. i hope this might give you some answer's, but hell i could be wrong because all i know is what i was taught. so if god doesn't speak to you directly and inform you then we could all be wrong and going to hell. so i just believe what jesus taught. he told his follower's " blessed are you that have seen and believe, but more blessed are those that have not seen and believe". amen

It's not about who's religion is right, it is about Christ. If you believe that Christ is the son og God and died for our sins then that is your way to heaven.

God inspired Godly Men of the bible through his spirit to write what he would have them write.Just as he inspires Men today to preach the Gospel and to write Gospel songs.God speaks through the Holy spirit and his word.

Religion is for people that are afraid of going to hell.---Spirituality is for those who have already been there. Ponder on that one a while.:)

So you need to be a "biblical scholar" to understand the bible?

Is that why you religious people are all so, so confused?

Science. It works, bitches.

If you do not belive in God and want to do his will, then you can't understand God's words, and really should not be trying to quote something that you dont' know anything about. I'm not being smart and I hope it dosen't sound that way. If you give your life to God, you will find that you will see and understand things in an entire different way. May God bless you.

If you have been saved by the spirit of God and the blood has been applied. If you have been save you will strive to live as Jesus did.

This original posting asked for horrific and absurd bible verses, not opinions, not accusations or nasty character assassinations, not promotion of fear and threats of eternal damnation. I've read both old and new testaments cover to cover, a 70 hour read. And I am amazed how people who call themselves devout Christians haven't read it but still claim to know what's in it. I am more than happy to offer up a few I call undeniably horrific and absurd.

God speaking:'If two men are having a fight and the wife of one tries to help her husband by grabbing hold of the other man's genitals, show her no mercy; cut off her hand'(Deuteronomy 25:11-12).

God speaking:'Do not make any treaties with the people of the country into which you are going ... Instead, tear down their altars, destroy their sacred pillars, and cut down the symbols of their goddess Asherah'(Exodus 34:12-13).

'So the assembly sent twelve thousand of their bravest men with the orders, "Go and kill everyone in Jabesh, including the women and children. Kill all the males, and also any woman who is not a virgin"'(Judges 21:10-11).

God speaking:'When the LORD you God gives you victory in battle and you take prisoners, you may see among them a beautiful woman that you like and want to marry. Take her to your home ... Later, if you no longer want her, you are to let her go free. Since you forced her to have intercourse with you, you cannot treat her as a slave and sell her'(Deuteronomy 21:10-14).

God speaking:'If a man takes a stick and beats his slave, whether male or female, and the slave dies on the spot, the man is to be punished. But if the slave does not die for a day or two, the master is not to be punished. The loss of his property is punishment enough'(Exodus 21:20-21).

"(Religion) With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion" (Steven Weinberg)

Why ask anybody anything, and take a chance on being led wrong. Read and study the bible and talk straight to god and you will find your answer's. Each person has to find thier own way to god, and dont let anyone tell you anything different.
How come Christians can find thier own way but all musliums are the same?

I think you need to find a new way.

Because Christians refuse to follow the rules outlined in their holy book 'the bible'. Everyone interprets it in a way that makes it palatable to the individual interpreting it. This is why pentecostal churches worship different than baptist. If you go to catholic church and want a divorce you can simply change to baptist, if you go to a baptist church and want to play with snakes you can change to a holiness, if you go to a holiness church but want to have two wives you can change to a Mormon. I don't care what you do, you can find a christian church that will justify it.

As a self proclaimed enviornmentalist my problem with christians is they see no need to conserve resources because they believe God put every thing here for us to use and that since Jesus is on his way back the resources will last until his return. Then completly ignore his words on greed and glutney and keeping things clean.

God put every thing here for us to use. Including people with a gift knowing we need to conserve resources.

Don't confuse christians that get talking points from Fox News and those that get it from the bible.

I dont like to generalize or stereotype but in this area its hard even for a liberal not to profile christians.
