Well after reading all the posts in this thread, what can I say? We are living in the last days, and people's hearts will be cold and the church will be luke warm.
We are in the laodicean church age. It seems like either pastors and church members are either the Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer type who hawk that heretical "prosperity gospel" garbage that has made many people give up on God and become atheists all because they believed that God will make things possible for them to live rich and perfect lives which when you read the Bible that is the farthest you can get from the truth.
Just ask the disciples and early church followers who died martyr's deaths, and considering the kind of people that are running the world right now (the Illuminati) don't be surprised if this persecution comes to our front doors in the future.
The pastors and church members either believe that or they believe the polar opposite the traditional "hell, fire, brimestone/ salvation by works/legalism formula that basically does the same thing as the prosperity gospel but even more quickly and that's produce atheists and agnostics who don't want anything to do with Christianity.
I personally get my church fix from the internet right now, here is where I go when I need to ask difficult questions, request prayer, and to fellowship. http://discussions.godandscience.org/
It's the exact polar opposite of topix and the exact polar opposite of most churches in the area, there you can ask questions and the place is not over run by annoying "internet atheists" and most of the people there are very nice and very helpful, it's one of the greatest social experiences I've ever had in my life.
But if any of you all still want to physically be involved with a local church, I guess I would recommend Barbourville Church of God.
Now I've personally never been there so I don't know how the church members and pastor are like but I know for a fact that one of the most lovable, precious and angelic individuals on the face of the earth attends that church....and let's just leave it at that.
So in a nutshell, that's my quick take on the local church scene currently.
I have been there and I would NOT recommend that church !!!! All the pastor and board members care about is money. You are only important if you have money otherwise they NEVER make you feel welcome. They pick and chose their congregation..Hard to find a descent church in Knox County.. I just stay home where I am safe from them.

Ah, oh well. I still may want to go there sometime, not to join or anything, just so I can say hi to "Snuggle" once again.

Oops, I better stop, before I make a rabid pit bull upset with me lol.

But anyway, be sure to check out http://discussions.godandscience.org/ There are some great people there and great conversations.
