Wndow Air Conditioner "parts help" question

I have an older 220 volt Whirlpool window a.c. with a bad thermostat. It cools great but won't kick-on and off and will freeze-up unless you manually turn it off every so often. I have looked at thermostats on the intenet but they are around $100.00, which is a lot of money to put into an older unit. My question: Is there a place around Barbourville that might have a thermostat for this, new or used, at a cheaper price? Thank You

Is the thermostat stuck? Have you tried cleaning the thermostat?

I used electronics cleaner 2-3 times on it but it never helped...it is stuck "on" and cools all the time and never kicks-off to fan. I guess this is better than it being stuck "off", and only blowing on fan, but having to manually turn it off (to prevent freeze-up) is a pain...and you can't run it all night (freeze-up) unless you get up and down to turn it on and off all night long.

Have you tried going up to the junk yard and seeing if they have one similar to yours? If they do they will sell you the part for a little of nothing. Go up there Tues and see if they have what you need. If not post on here exactly what you need and I'll get back with you. My husband works there. I can have him watch for you one if that'd help. Let me know...
