I dont see getting rid of assault weapons as giving up my freedom. I still can have a deer rifle, hand gun and shotgun. I see it as making it a little safer so I can enjoy the freedoms I have.

Traditionally (i.e., according to those who know something about guns), an 'assault weapon' is any weapon which can fire multiple rounds via a single trigger pull--a machine gun in other words. The number of rounds which the magazine or receiver (as opposed to 'clip') can hold is irrelevant.

National Firearms Act made it illegal for private citizens to own one without the hard-to-obtain permission of the Treasury Department.

I agree, if someone uses an AR-15 with a 10rd mag. to hunt with it would be ok. That is not what is happening, people just dont seem to know where to stop. I'd love to own an AR-15 to keep around the house but I dont need a 30rd mag. and I dont think anybody else does. The problem here is knowing what is unacceptable and non- rational. Cant get rid of the high capacity mags without getting rid of the guns. Another case of the few ruining it for the many.

You do realize you can buy a 10 round magazine. You don't have to have a 30 round. I would also imagine most people don't use a 30 round magazine.

Why would it matter as to how many rounds a gun holds when most crimes are not commited by legal gun owners? Why target legal gun ownership?

Your absolutely right but for some reason it seems that they think that if you own a AK or AR your going to kill someone. That there is no other reason to own one.

The Second Amendment wasn’t written just so we could hunt animals. It was written so that the militia – which is comprised of the people – would have the right to individually keep and bear military rifles.

That was whole point of the amendment. That means that a ban on scary-looking guns would be a complete violation of the Constitution. A supposed tyrannical government would have the latest and greatest arms, and so should the people's militia.

The Second Amendment still covers modern guns for the same reason the First Amendment covers the Internet and blogs. The Second Amendment protects all guns from being banned for the same reason the First Amendment protects all religions from being banned.

This is why it matters that we don’t ban “assault” rifles. They’re not magical. They’re just like other guns, meaning they’re dangerous and deadly. And that’s why Americans should own them – because the American people should be a dangerous and deadly force that our own government and foreign governments should be a little concerned about.

It’s just what’s necessary for the security of a free state

If you let them ban automatic weapon's, it just gives them a chance to ban other thing's down the road.

Next ban will be another type of gun, that someone uses to do this very same thing. And what happens when a sling shot is used? Ban those also? A bow and arrow? Knives? Nails?

People. When evil decides to do mass destruction. Evil will. It will find a way.

I'm not sure what will stop it. Except for The Lord. God is taken from way too many situations. People need to pray more. Bring God back into the homes.
So many have gone astray, and the evilness in our world is now palpable.

So now its not the guns you want banned its the magazines. So 3 ten rounders are safer than 1 thirty rounder.

Gun laws? What about abortion?

In the President Obama's memorial speech for the Newtown massacre, he said that our most basic responsibility "is to protect our children."
Agreed. Some 50,000,000 (and counting) babies have been aborted in the U.S. since Roe v Wade with the blessing of our government. "The greatest holocaust the world has ever known."

Don't you see? It's elementary. Sure, change some gun laws, but please restore value and protection to the life of the unborn children in our country!

the person that needs the ak or ar is the guard at the door, if there was a armed person at every entryway there woud be no more of this. the sign on the door should not have a gun with a red circle and line thru it, it should say 99 percent of adults at this facility is armed and ready to protect the persons inside.,, never never never give up you rights.. we are a free nation and will stay a free nation

Unfortunately leftist politicians won't see it that way. And those on the left are so trusting of the Govt. that they will believe anything they are told from their leaders. The solutions that the left will submit will infringe on the 2nd amendment even though it has never ever done a bit of good. They will try to ban assult weapons which is against the 2nd amendment and they will try to ban high capacity magazines which infringes the 2nd amendment and those citizens on the left will agree while forgetting that people on the left have just as many guns on the right and none of this will protect our children.
