I think volunteer fire fiighters take it way to seriously. Remember in high school all the "cool" kids had hip scanners and a mandatory chew in. Lol that's cool you volunteer to fight fires. But I won't commend you. When I wear my uniform here, and over in theatre, I do it because I'm paid. Lol not for the fun of it. Get a real job. Lol
You're absolutely right! They take it way too seriously. They should probably just tone it down a notch as your home burns to the ground. Wait? What? They take it seriously because its a serious job...risking their lives to save others. Most, if not all of them, do have full-time jobs where they receive a paycheck. They VOLUNTEER in addition to their paid jobs to save cool guys like you 👍

They volunteer because they care! They are all not like that! You shouldn't judge or stereotype people! Sure if your house was burning down you would change your mind! Maybe you should stop by during a training to see what it's all about... Or are you afraid you will have a different outlook?

Not at all. I've been trained for several things. Things that are unrecognized. And I'm not out flaunting them at all. They get to sleep in their bed every night with their loved ones while we're over seas 1000's of miles away. That's cool they volunteer. Everybody deserves a dream. Some just actually achieve their dreams. Why don't we recognize the military? They have sites called "f_ck the troops", and when a soldier or marine dies, Westboro church protests their funerals. And you want me to pat "volunteers" on the back? I'm not hating, just simply stating the truth. And sometimes I guess it hurts.

Again...never said they were all like that. Pay attention. And also, for your information, I have and do train with them on a regular basis. It's required by my employer. That's why I said a lot of them are that way.

Is it also stereotypical for volunteer firemen to marry girls with absolutely no reading comprehension? I wonder if maybe the only reason your husband volunteers is to get a break from you.

I was in the military and I am on the dept in bville....It takes a bigger man to volunteer to do a job than have to find a reason to do it... come down sometime and I'll show you what a real "job" is all about....we are supposed to take it serious or what would we be doin it for

For those of you who don't like the volunteer stations think they are a joke or think ur paying so much for fire service now here a lil tib bit for you the volunteer stations save you a lot of money along with property you home insurance and property insurance is lower because there are stations spread out through the county u can shut down one station in the county and the people who lived in there district insurance will sky rocket because the are so far from another station and the response time is increased or if u think u pay so much taxes on fire service now why don't u just propose to have them go to all paid stations so u can really pay for them then not only will u be paying what you was before you will be paying a great deal more cause they will take more taxes from you for the checks they are going to write out every to pay those fire fighter who use to just volunteers and yes most of us do pay a good bit for our lights on our trucks but number one it or money to spend none of the is supplied by the stations it comes out of our pockets number two those lights is pretty much all we have to keep cars running over top of us on when we are try to help people out in the middle of the roads but still some people don't even pay attention to big red trucks in the road let alone our personal trucks and blast on through and when the time comes when u need us I'll be glad we are there and if u think it a joke stop by ur local station and get an aplication and try it and see what u think and we train just like the professional do and along side of them

Yes it's true, I've worked with and known several vol. f.fighters, and they're definitely ate up with it big time. They usually get made fun of, and that eats them up even more.

Yeah I guess sense we take it too seriously "we" should not buy out lights for our personal cars and take it easy, that way when you crash your car and can't get out we will just Cruz down the road going 25 in a 45 cuz the elderly lady in front of us is out on her Sunday drive, and when we get to the station we will whistle and skip to where our gear is sitting then, After we take our time in lacing our shoes and putting them away we will get some gear on, but before we get on the truck we will go to the pop machine and grab a soda! Then when we get in the truck we will make sure we find a good radio station, then we will drive leisurely to where ever you crashed your car at! Cuz that sounds so much better huh? When a emergency happens we put aside convinces, we leave our loved ones to possibly help a stranger, we make split second life and death decisions and have that pressure on us every time we roll out the station Fact is we all have home lives and jobs just like everyone else, pay rent or mortgages just like anyone else, have kids and family's just like anyone else, you complain about pennies that there taking outta your check for us? What if all the volunteers quit? Who would be there for you? How much would you be paying then? What a lowlife! Oh yeah not to mention the mental aspect of what comes with this job, trying to stay calm when you see a helpless person, seeing the aftermath of a violent death, seeing children loose everything, ill tell you why I do this, it's because when I need help I want someone to be there for me, this is the least I can do for people, I read these post above and just think why would anyone think like that? Why would someone talk bad about a group of ppl that there only goal is to be able to have the training, skills and equipment to help the community when they need it
